If you watch television with an antenna, a federally-mandated change requires you to follow some simple steps to rescan the airwaves.
Approximately 1,000 TV stations nationwide have to change their frequencies to make room for wireless internet carriers after an FCC held auction, according to a statement released by the National Association of Broadcasters.
For My58, Heroes and Icons, and Estrella TV Sacramento, the change occurred April 29.
Those who watch television via over-the-air signals need to rescan their TVs in order to store the new frequencies.
Here's how to do it:
- Press the “Menu” button on your television’s remote control
- Press “Set-Up”
- Select “Antenna” then “Channel Scan” or “Auto-Tune”
This change will only impact viewers who use antennas to receive their signals, not those who use cable or satellite providers. Additionally, channel numbers for TV stations will not change because of this operation.
