The award-winning Broadway hit “Hamilton” will officially debut in the newly renovated Safe Credit Union Performing Arts Center Wednesday night in Sacramento.
The renovation was part of a $245 million project to expand the convention center downtown.
It’s the first time the theater has been updated since 1996.
“Hamilton” will be the first big, Broadway show to open the space for theater fans.
Richard Lewis, the president and CEO of Broadway Sacramento, told KCRA 3 that getting the hit play to the Capitol City has been in the works for a while.
“They very much want to come to Sacramento because they know that there is an audience here that will absolutely support a four-week engagement of ‘Hamilton’ in particular,” he said
Performances will run through Oct. 10 and you can get tickets through Broadwaysacramento.com.
Meanwhile, Broadway is officially back and ready for performances in New York City after a 17-month shutdown.
The cast of “Hamilton” there came out to serenade fans on the street before the curtains went up. Everyone was required to show proof of vaccination and wear a mask to attend a show.
