THE MUSEUM IS ON JIBOOM STREET BETWEEN I-5 AND THE SACRAMENTO RIVER. A VACANT, 114-YEAR-OLD POWER HOUSE WARES STORED AND CONVERTED TO HOUSE ONE PORTION OF THE 50,000 SQUARE FOOT MUSEUM. EXHIBITS ADDRESS SOME OF CALIFORNIA’S MO CSTHALLENGING ISSUES LIKE WATER, POWER AND CLIMATE CHANGE AMONG SOME OF THE ATTRAIONSCT IS A LINGVI BEEHIVE. IT CREATES A BUZZ IN THE NATURE AREA. ANOTHER DEVICE CALLED A SIM TABLE LETS PARTICIPANTS SCULPT A LANDSCAPE AND WATCH HOW WATER FLOWS THROUGH IT. SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity opens this weekend in Sacramento
Sacramento’s newest museum is opening to the public this weekend. The SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity centers around all things science, technology, engineering and math with more than 100 exhibits, including a live beehive.It’s located at what used to be the old power station on the Sacramento River. The 30,000-square-foot facility now houses interactive exhibits, many of which address some of California's most challenging issues like water, power and climate change. There’s also a 22,000-square-foot addition that boasts classrooms, offices a cafe and a 120-seat “Multiverse Theater.”A ribbon-cutting event kicked off Friday morning. Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, Rep. Doris Matsui and State Sen. Richard Pan attended the event to talk about how the project came to fruition. The museum opens to the public on Saturday.
