My58 Superstars: Rodrigo Lopez returns to Sac Republic FC
One of the most beloved players in franchise history, Rodrigo Lopez, returns to the Sacramento Republic FC for his third stint with the club.
"I always considered Sacramento my home, or second home," Lopez said.
Back in 2013, Rodrigo "RoRo" Lopez was the Republic's first signing ahead of their inaugural season.
"He's the captain for a reason because he's someone I extremely value and place a lot of trust in," said Head Coach Mark Briggs.
The soon-to-be 35-year-old recently scored his 50th career goal and 30th with the Republic FC.
"I feel young, I feel young. I know I'm getting up there in age but I take care of myself,” Roro said.
The timeless and experienced captain looks to turn back the clock with the revamped roster, who have shown him nothing but respect.
"I wouldn't call him grandpa to his face but yeah he’s more experienced is what I'd say," midfielder Nick Ross said.
However, Lopez told KCRA 3 he doesn't mind being seen as one of the "more experienced" members of the team.
"Being one of the older guys, I get picked on a lot. I get the banner of being the grandpa, but I’ll take it I don’t mind," Lopez said.
