“It kind of touched my heart,” Meza said. “We have a huge heart for these situations.”

A complete stranger dumping the dog in his yard — and it's all caught on security video.

“It turned out to be that someone had literally ditched him over my fence,” Meza said.

His home's surveillance system captures the exact moments that a car pulls up, a person is seen with the dog approaching the fence, leans over, and drops the dog into the yard.

The family wasn’t home at the time but heard from a concerned neighbor that day.

“I received a text message from my neighbor saying one of my puppies wanted to get out of the gate,” he explained.

Turns out it wasn't one of their dogs in the front yard. It was Oreo.

“He was dropped off at the right home,” Meza said.

Lucky for the puppy, the Mezas are "dog people."

They took Oreo to a veterinarian, where they discovered he wasn't microchipped and would need a home.

“We're gonna end up keeping him and just give him a good home,” said Meza.

The family is grateful that out of all the homes that could have ended up with an unwanted dog, theirs is where this one landed.

“I think she did the puppy a favor,” said Meza. And she did us a favor because we're all blessed.”

Shelters across our area have various policies for "surrendering" unwanted pets.
