Sacramento Children's Home - Spotlight On The Staff

Sacramento Children's Home - Spotlight On The Staff
We just really have a passion for helping people. We wouldn't be in this role unless we really cared. This source is an urgent response program. We serve ages 0 to 26 in Sac County, and we just work with the really like short term crisis situations. How can I support you today? I think the best part of working at the source is getting to give other youth things that I might have needed when I was younger. For me, it was a difficult time in my life. Being in that age and being able to relate with them, you know, is really cool. I think it's vital that The Source has people who have the lived experience. It gives us kind of the street cred, if you will. I did not have a resource like The Source when I was raising my son. 100% is a motivating factor for why I do what I do. Care givers almost always are grateful for our presence. We bring a great deal of compassion to this position. We want everyone to know that you're not alone out there. We do understand we are going through it. The biggest thing is just somebody that gets it, like really gets it. Not just saying they do. I'm most passionate about helping youth find their voice, to know how to advocate for themselves and being able to advocate for them sometimes when they're not being heard and just showing them that it does get better. Not perfect, but better from wherever they're at. I really like working with transitional youth because I think it's such a crazy age. You know, you're really figuring yourself out. And I've worked as a therapist before in a few other jobs, but this one doing like the urgent response, there's something really special and magical that happens in crisis work where you make those connections and you help someone out of this deep, dark place. My biggest motivation is my little brother. We adopted him for the foster care system. And so that's definitely the biggest thing is just hearing his story, because I think a lot of people might forget that children also go through their own mental health things when they're little. People are like their kids where they have to worry about. You know, a lot of them struggle with like things internally. And I think that's like my biggest passion is just being there to talk with them when they need the support and need the help. I would describe The Source in one word as supportive. Vital. Immediate dedication. Hope. Here. My work is really rewarding. I love my job. I wouldn't do anything else. The gift of being able to help people is amazing.
