Several campsites and state parks in California closed for Memorial Day Weekend
EXPLAINS WHAT’S CHANGED IN THE SUMMER. KICKOFF IS HERE. AND AS MANY PREPARED TO SPEND MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND OUTDOORS, OFFICIALS ARE WARNING ABOUT SOME CLOSURES IN THE SIERRA. WHAT WE’VE HAD TO DO IS POSTPONE SOME OF OUR OPENINGS OF OUR CAMPGROUNDS AROUND THE TAHOE AND DONNER LAKE AREAS JUST BECAUSE OF THE SNOWPACK WE’RE JUST NOW BEING ABLE TO GET INTO SOME OF THOSE AREAS AND KIND OF ASSESS THE DAMAGE. 26 STATE PARKS ARE PARTIALLY CLOSED AND SOME OF THEM ARE LOCATED IN EL DORADO PLACER, SACRAMENTO, CALAVERAS, TUOLUMNE AND U LOCAL COUNTIES. IT’S DEFINITELY A LITTLE BIT TOUGHER TO SCHEDULE THINGS AROUND AS SOME VISITORS TRY TO MAKE THE BEST OF THEIR TIME OUT HERE. WHEN WE WENT HIKING, THERE WAS DEFINITELY SOME CLOSURES, BUT IF ANYTHING IT ALLOWED US TO KIND OF VENTURE OFF AND CREATE OUR OWN MORE ADVENTUROUS PATH, WHICH WAS FUN. NONETHELESS, OFFICIALS STRESS THAT IT’S NECESSARY TO RESPECT THE CLOSURES FOR YOUR SAFETY. IT VIKING’S HOME, WHERE WE ARE, THE TRAIL GOING DOWN, HAD A COUPLE OF AVALANCHES TO GO THROUGH, AND WE JUST OPENED IT THIS MORNING AFTER EXTENSIVE WORK TO GET THE TRAIL SAFE FOR PEOPLE TO WALK INTO. EDLER AREAS HAVE SEVERAL DOWNED TREES THAT STILL NEED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. THERE’S HAZARD LIMBS HANGING AND STUFF. PEOPLE WHO DON’T RESPECT THE CLOSURES COULD BE CITED, FINED AND POTENTIALLY EVEN BE GIVEN A COURT DATE FOR THOSE WANTING TO RELAX. CAN RENT A BIKE. WE HAVE SOME FANTASTIC SHOPPING, SOME GREAT PLACES TO EAT. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE IS ALSO AN OPTION AND OFFICIALS SAY THEY’RE EXPECTING A PRETTY GOOD CROWD. WE’RE REPORTING SOME REALLY GREAT NUMBERS FOR STARTING SUNDAY. WE’RE ABOUT 90% CAPACITY. SO IF YOU’RE LOOKING TO COME IN AND VISIT THE AREA, I SUGGEST BOOKING ON A FRIDAY AND TRYING TO EXTEND THAT FOR THE LONG WEEKEND. NOW, IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE STAYING IN THE SOUTH LAKE TAHOE AREA AND YOU DON’T WANT TO DRIVE, YOU CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE LAKE LINK SHUTTLE SERVICE, WHICH IS FREE TO USE FOR VISITORS AND LOCALS FROM 7 A.M. TO 9 P.M. DAILY IN SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, MARICELA DE L
