New exhibit at California Museum shows off lowrider culture
THIS EXHIBIT OPEN. GOOD MORNING, TAHOE AND DEIRDRE. GOOD MORNING. THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING OF A NATIONAL MOVEMENT. IN FACT, THE SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM IN WASHINGTON DC PLANS TO FEATURE ITS OWN EXHIBIT OF LOWRIDER CARS FEATURING LOCAL CARS FROM STOCKTON AND SACRAMENTO. SO WHEN THE CALIFORNIA MUSEUM HEARD ABOUT IT, THEY WANTED TO BEAT THEM TO THE PUNCH AND GET THEIR OWN EXHIBIT OPEN. BUT IT TOOK THE HELP OF A LOT OF VOLUNTEERS IN THE CAPITAL CITY THIS WEEKEND. HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE CELEBRATED THE OPENING OF THE GROUNDBREAKING DISPLAY WITH A BIG BLOCK PARTY IN SACRAMENTO. THE TEMPORARY DISPLAY HONORING LOWRIDING IS CALLED THE BOULEVARD DREAMS CALIFORNIA EXHIBIT. THE SACRAMENTO LOWRIDER COMMISSION WAS A GROUP WHO FIRST PITCHED THE IDEA. THEY SAY IT MAKES THEM PROUD TO SEE THEIR RICH HISTORY AND ART BEHIND THE LOWRIDING CULTURE IS BEING HIGHLIGHTED IN THIS SPECIAL WAY. WHEN CRUISING BANS WERE IN PLACE THROUGHOUT THE STATE. THIS WAY OF LIFE WAS SEEN AS A CRIME. NOW THEY SAY IT’S GETTING THE RECOGNITION IT DESERVES. IT’S A GREAT FEELING TO SEE ALL THIS HAPPENING IN SACRAMENTO. IT’S COME AROUND FULL CIRCLE. I MEAN, IT’S THE HOTTEST ART FORM RIGHT NOW. YOU KNOW, YOU SEE IT ON TV, YOU SEE IT IN THE SUPER BOWL. AND FOR US, IT’S A LIFESTYLE. I MEAN, THIS IS WHAT WE LIVE EVERY DAY. AND YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO CATCH THIS EXHIBIT HERE ON O STREET. IT WILL BE UP AND RUNNING UNTIL APRIL 14TH. REPORTING LIVE I

New exhibit at California Museum shows off lowrider culture
A new exhibit at the California Museum is showing off the history of lowrider culture, and hundreds of people say it’s about time Sacramento shines a light on a way of life that has had positive contributions to the Golden State. This is a national movement, and even a museum at the Smithsonian is featuring its own lowrider exhibit using some cars from Sacramento and Stockton. When the California Museum heard about that exhibit, they rushed to get this display up and running in Sacramento — but it took the help of a lot of volunteers to get it done. The exhibit runs until April 14. The Sacramento History Museum also has its own exhibit highlighting lowriding in the Capitol City.
