SCENE HOURS LATER ON FEATHER RIVER BOULEVARD IN OLIVEHURST. THAT’S WHERE WE FIND KCRA 3’S CAROLINA ESTRADA. CAROLINA, WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED IN THE LAST FEW HOURS? YES. SO JUST IN THE LAST HALF HOUR, THEY DID OPEN UP THE ROAD TO TRAFFIC. SO NOW WE CAN GET A BETTER LOOK AT WHAT THE SCENE IS, AND I’M GOING TO MOVE TO THE SIDE AND SHOW YOU WE CAN SEE INVESTIGATORS ARE STILL OUT HERE. JUST A COUPLE OF MINUTES AGO WE SAW THEM START PICKING UP THOSE EVIDENCE MARKERS, BUT THEY ARE STILL LOOKING OVER. WE CAN SEE THAT IT’S KIND OF LIKE A SIDE OF THE HOME. SO WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR IS THAT. THEY FIRST ARRIVED AT THIS LOCATION AT AROUND 2:50 P.M. TO RESPOND TO A MEDICAL AID CALL. THIS IS ON THE BLOCK OF RIVER ON THE 5400 BLOCK OF FEATHER RIVER BOULEVARD. WHEN DEPUTIES ARRIVED, THEY ENCOUNTERED A MAN WIELDING AN AX AND AN OFFICER INVOLVED. SHOOTING TOOK PLACE. THE SUSPECT WAS TRANSPORTED TO ADVENTIST RIDEOUT HOSPITAL IN MARYSVILLE, AND AS OF THIS TIME WE HAVE NO INFORMATION ON THE MAN’S CONDITION AND YUBA. SUTTER’S OFFICE OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING TEAM IS STILL HERE IN INVESTIGATING THIS SHOOTING, AND WE DID TALK TO SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE LIVED IN THE AREA. FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. THEY SAY THIS SHOOTING DOES RAISE CONCERNS ABOUT SAFETY IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS. AND OF COURSE, WE’LL CONTINUE TO GATHER MORE INFORMATION AS WE LEARN MORE AND KEEP YOU UPDATED. FOR NO

He's accused of charging at a deputy while armed with a meat cleaver and a hammer, the DA's office said.

An armed man shot while charging at a Yuba County sheriff's deputy in Olivehurst on Friday has been released from the hospital and has been arrested, authorities said. Howard John Barton, 65, was discharged from Adventist Rideout Hospital late Saturday and then arrested, the Yuba County District Attorney's Office said on Sunday. The Yuba County Sheriff's Office previously said the shooting happened around 2:47 p.m. at the 5400 block of Feather River Boulevard and described the suspect as being armed with an ax.
