Meet Kelsey Taylor — the woman with the most confusing name in Kansas City right now
Many of us feel connected to the 2024 Super Bowl for many different reasons. Maybe you love the Kansas City Chiefs or the San Francisco 49ers. Maybe you love football. Maybe you love a certain pop singer. For one Kansas City woman, her connection has everything to do with her name.
“My name is Kelsey Taylor Pomeroy.”
Since moving to Kansas City eight years ago, Kelsey Taylor has heard her name in public just about every day.
"I knew nothing about the Chiefs," she said. "Nothing about them. I would just hear my name everywhere. I would hear, ‘Kelsey Kelsey Kelsey!’ everywhere, and it took me forever to realize that there was a football player on the Chiefs with the last name Kelce!”
As weird as that was, things took an even stranger turn several months ago when Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce started dating international pop star Taylor Swift.
"I was so thrilled when this happened because she’s a part-time resident of my city?! Really?! That's amazing," Pomeroy said.
Equally amazing is the amount of times Kelsey Taylor hears her name in public and assumes people are addressing her.
"It has evolved into: I'm thinking people are calling me out by my first and middle name. Like, that is very intimate, because I will be I'll be out and about, and I'll hear 'Kelsey' and they will just arrange their sentences where the next word is 'Taylor' and I'm like, just paranoid all the time because people are talking like using my middle name Kelsey Taylor everywhere," she said.
As an online content creator, Kelsey Taylor had to share. She made and posted a video of herself looking left and right, up and down over and over as her name is said. It’s had millions of views, and that number is climbing.
A “Swiftie,” Kelsey Taylor Pomeroy has the perfect Taylor Swift song to sum up her experience: "I Know Places."
"The song is talking about like knowing this secret place to, like, get away from my prying eyes and the paparazzi, and obviously that's not, you know, exactly what's going on to me, but it does feel like people are just talking about me all the time when they're really not."
Regardless, Kelsey Taylor knows the Taylor-Travis talk is likely far from over. And she’s just fine with that.
