Rossen Reports: Spring break hotel and flight deals
Many of us are sick of the cold weather and ready for a vacation. If you’re planning a spring break getaway, here’s the travel forecast from the trip planning website, Hopper. We've pulled together tips and booking sweet spots to capitalize on.

Flight forecast
If you’re looking to travel somewhere in the country; current airfares are averaging $256 round-trip, which is down 2% from this time last year. If you’re looking to go to Mexico or Central America; current airfares are averaging $447 round-trip, down 11% from this time last year. Finally, want to go to Europe? Current airfares are averaging $640 round-trip, down 7% from this time last year.
Want some booking tips to save money on flights?
Leaving on Tuesday or Wednesday could save you more than 30% off your total airfare! If you are planning a trip for March, book your flights NOW. Prices are in a good spot. If you’re going away in April, book between now and mid-March.
Hotel forecast
Rates in the U.S. are averaging $242 per night over the Spring Break period. Hopper says hotel rates in Cancun are averaging $339 per night, while rates in Punta Cana are close to $500 per night. If you’re heading to Europe, you will see high prices as well! London is averaging $440 per night and Florence is at $466 per night.
Want some booking tips to save money on hotels?
If you’re flexible about where you want to stay…you can book 10 to 14 days before check-in for the lowest prices. If you have a specific hotel in mind, 30 days before is the sweet spot for price and availability.
Rental car forecast
Rates are averaging $41 per day nationally, which is down from $45 at this time last year. Hopper says prices in some top destinations like Las Vegas and Phoenix are closer to $50-$55 per day due to the higher demand.
