2-year-old girl dies after hit by truck in Woodland, police say
WE BEGIN WITH BREAKING NEWS. THAT BREAKING NEWS IS IN WOODLAND TONIGHT. POLICE SAY A TODDLER WAS HIT BY A TRUCK AND DIED. THIS HAPPENED ON WEST STREET, JUST NORTH OF WEST MAIN STREET. POLICE SAY EVERYONE INVOLVED WAS COOPERATING AND WORKED WITH POLICE. THEY SAY THIS IS NOT A HIT AND RUN. KCRA 3’S CATALINA ESTRADA IS LIVE AT THE SCENE NOW. MINUTES AGO YOU SPOKE WITH FAMILY. WHO WAS THERE? HOW OLD IS THIS TODDLER? CATALINA. BRITTANY. THEIR PARENTS TELL ME SHE WAS TWO YEARS OLD AND WAS ABOUT TO TURN THREE IN APRIL. THEY DESCRIBED HER AS A HAPPY, LOVING GIRL WHO LOVED TO DANCE AND WAS JUST THE FAMILY’S HAPPINESS. AND YOU CAN SEE THE IMPACT THAT SHE HAD ON JUST HER FAMILY. THERE’S DOZENS OF PEOPLE GATHERED RIGHT HERE WHERE IT ALL HAPPENED TO HONOR HER LIFE. WHAT WE KNOW FROM POLICE RIGHT NOW IS THAT THE GIRL WAS IN THIS PARKING LOT. THEIR PARENTS WERE SETTING UP TO WORK. THEY WERE SELLING TACOS RIGHT HERE ON THIS STAND. WHEN THEY’RE. HER PARENTS TURNED AROUND, THEY SAW THAT BACK TRUCK, THAT BLACK TRUCK SLIDING DOWN. THAT’S WHAT THEY TELL US. AND THAT’S WHEN THE GIRL WAS HIT. THEY TRANSPORT HER TO THE HOSPITAL AND POLICE SAY THAT A BLACK DODGE WAS FOUND AT THE SCENE WITH EIGHT AND ANOTHER THREE YEAR OLD INSIDE. THEY FOUND THE MAN ASSOCIATED TO THIS VEHICLE THAT WAS DETERMINED WAS THE ONE THAT HIT THE GIRL. THEIR PARENTS SAY THEY’RE JUST HEARTBROKEN AND THEY REALLY JUST WANT JUSTICE FOR THEIR DAUGHTER. SHE WAS THE YOUNGEST OF THREE AND THEY SAY THAT SHE WAS JUST THEIR HAPPINESS. POLICE DO TELL US THAT DUI WAS NOT A FACTOR, BUT THIS IS STILL AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION. AND AS YOU CAN SEE RIGHT HERE, JUST PEOPLE ARE HEARTBROKEN. WE’VE SEEN THEM CRY. A 2-year-old child died Saturday afternoon after they were hit by a vehicle, the Woodland Police Department said.Officers got a report of the crash that happened around 3:45 p.m. in the 300 block of West Street off of West Main Street, the police department said. When officers got there, they learned that family members took the child to a hospital, where they died of their injuries.At the crash scene, the police department said they spotted a black Dodge truck with a 3-year-old child inside. They also found a man nearby who was associated with the truck and learned it hit the 2-year-old.Police did not specify if there was anything criminal that led to the crash. The police department responded to Facebook comments to clarify that DUI is not suspected at this time.A photo shared by police shows crime scene tape at a 76 gas station.The family of the child later identified her as Ailahni Sanchez Martinez.Ailahni’s parents, Rosa Martinez and Sandro Sanchez, said she was just a month away from her birthday.“She was always happy, she loved to dance and brought joy to the family,” her mother Rosa Martinez said.Ailahni’s parents told KCRA 3 that they were setting up their taco stand when they saw the truck moving backward toward their daughter.“We want justice,” said Sanchez. “I lost my daughter because of someone else. “See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app.

Officers got a report of the crash that happened around 3:45 p.m. in the 300 block of West Street off of West Main Street, the police department said. When officers got there, they learned that family members took the child to a hospital, where they died of their injuries.

Ailahni’s parents, Rosa Martinez and Sandro Sanchez, said she was just a month away from her birthday.

“She was always happy, she loved to dance and brought joy to the family,” her mother Rosa Martinez said.
