Olympic Zone Special: California hopefuls prepare for the Paris Olympics

Meet Olympic hopefuls from California and hear about their journeys as they prepare for Paris.

WELCOME AND THANKS FOR JOINING US. WE ARE OFFICIALLY AT THE THREE MONTH COUNTDOWN TO THE 2024 PARIS SUMMER OLYMPICS. AND WHAT A BETTER WAY TO MARK THE MOMENT THAN BY CELEBRATING SOME OF CALIFORNIA’S FINEST ATHLETES. WE ARE GOING TO BE TAKING A LOOK AT THEIR OLYMPIC MINDSET, HOW IT SETS THEM APART AND HOW THEY USE IT TO ACHIEVE GREATNESS. WE’RE JOINING YOU FROM THE LA MEMORIAL COLISEUM. THE COLISEUM IS KNOWN AS THE GREATEST STADIUM IN THE WORLD. IT IS A LIVING MEMORIAL TO ALL WHO SERVED IN THE U.S. ARMED FORCES DURING WORLD WAR ONE, AND IT’S ALSO THE ONLY VENUE TO HOST TWO SUMMER OLYMPICS. 1932 AND 1984. AND IT’S GOING TO BE A BIG PART OF THE LA 2028 GAMES WHEN LOS ANGELES BECOMES ONLY THE THIRD CITY TO HOST A THIRD OLYMPICS. IN 2017, THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE DID SOMETHING THAT IT HAD ACTUALLY NEVER DONE BEFORE. IT VOTED ON A DOUBLE ALLOCATION, ANNOUNCING TWO HOST CITIES AT THE SAME TIME. PARIS FOR 2024 AND LOS ANGELES FOR 2028. SO THAT MEANT THAT LOS ANGELES WOULD HAVE 11 YEARS TO GET READY
