TODAY MEANT FOR SOME VETERANS. MY NAME IS BILL NIEMEYER. I WAS. A 1959 TO 1963, SO I WAS BETWEEN KOREA AND AND VIETNAM. ALFRED VELASQUEZ I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL AND I GOT DRAFTED. I SAID 14IN THE NAVY AND 17 IN THE ARMY, MOSTLY RESERVES. BEING A CIVILIAN, KCRA WERE SUPPLYING THE TROOPS IN THE FIELD AND, UH. JUST BEING THERE FOR THEM, BECAUSE I WAS ON THE BOARD OF A TROOP CARRIER AND WE, UH, AT NIGHT, 2:00 IN THE MORNING, WE DID. I DID A LOT OF RIVER RUNS. MEMORY OF OUR FALLEN HEROES WHO SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES FOR OUR FREEDOM. THAT’S WHAT MEMORIAL DAY IS ALL ABOUT. WELL, IT MEANS, UM, REMEMBER, FOR ALL OF THOSE THAT DIDN’T COME HOME, UM, IT’S A IT’S PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL OF THE MILITARY, UH, HOLIDAYS BEING IN THE MILITARY. UH, AND IT MEANS A LOT TO ME. IT REPRESENTS ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WERE IN THE SERVICE THAT SERVED OUR COUNTRY. ALL THE VETERANS THAT PASSED AWAY IN THE WAR. I’VE GOT TWO UNCLES AND A DAD. WORLD WAR TWO, ONE OF THE P.O.W., UH, TWO MARINE CORPS, AN ARMY AIR CORPS OFFICER. HE WAS A POW FOR 11 MONTHS. EVERYBODY SHOULD REMEMBER OUR FALLEN VETS. NOT JUST MILITARY. WE SHOULDN’T FORGET THEM. THERE YOU HAVE IT. RIGHT THERE. THE VFW POST HAS SEVERAL EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO HELP VETERANS. AND WE WERE TALKING EARLIER ABOUT HOW DIFFERENT FAMILY MEMBERS AND BOTH OUR FAMILIES HAVE SERVED AND BEEN VERY, VERY FORTUNATE THAT ALL OF MY CLOSE LOVED ONES CAME BACK HOME. BUT YOU JUST YOUR HEART GOES OUT TO ALL OF THE FAMILIES WHO KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE TO LOSE SOMEONE WHO GAVE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE, AND IN THAT ONE INTERVIEW WITH ONE GENTLEMAN, IT’S STILL EMOTIONAL. YOU KNOW, MANY DECADES LATER, IT CAN STILL AFFECT PEOPLE IN DIFFERENT WAYS.
