EVERYTHING FROM DOG BEDS TO FOOD AND PAPER TOWELS AS AN EVENT TO BRING IN EMERGENCY SUPPLIES FOR THE 240 DOGS OF 450 ANIMALS CURRENTLY AT BARKS, 83 DOGS RESCUED FROM A PIMLICO ROAD HOME HOARDING CASE LAST WEEK. WEDNESDAY, ANOTHER 13 DOGS SAVED FROM UNSAFE AND UNSANITARY CONDITIONS IN A CARROLLTON RIDGE HOME. AN INDIVIDUAL IS CHARGED WITH ANIMAL ABUSE AND NEGLECT EVEN BEFORE ALL THIS, BARKS HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING CAPACITY ISSUES. Baltimore Orioles pitcher Cole Irvin is encouraging people to help adopt from the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter with a special "Pitch-in for Pups" event.Irvin was joined by his wife, Kristen, at the shelter to sign autographs for any person who brings in an item on the shelter's emergency "pitch-in" wish list (see below)."It was, 'Hey, let's do something,' with my wife. It was 20 minutes before first pitch. I was like, 'Honey, I need your help.' And, here we are," Irvin said. "I know how these animals are going to affect the lives of everyone that's adopting these sweet babies, these sweet fur babies."The goal of the event is to collect emergency supplies for the 240 dogs out of 450 animals currently at the shelter, which includes 83 dogs rescued from a Baltimore rowhome hoarding case last week. Many of the dogs were found in cages stacked atop one another, covered in feces and roaches.On Wednesday, another 13 dogs were rescued from unsafe and unsanitary conditions in a Baltimore home. Seven adult dogs and six puppies are now at the shelter, where they're receiving medical care. An individual is charged with animal abuse and neglect because one of those dogs was found with a fractured jaw."What I'm understanding is that there was an extreme odor, poor ventilation and filthy conditions on the property. That's what was alleged," Baltimore City Sheriff Sam Cogen said.Even before all the rescues, the shelter had been experiencing capacity issues."This past week has really pushed our supplies, our donations, our funding to the brink, and that is why, as Cole said, 'Bring an item down.' People don't realize how fast we go through a case of paper towels in minutes.
