ON THE RULES. THEY’LL HAVE TO FOLLOW. YEAH, THIS IS AN HISTORIC STEP. THIS HAS NEVER TAKEN PLACE BEFORE. DUSTIN MOORE IS THE CO-FOUNDER OF THE STATEWIDE CANNABIS RETAILER EMBARQ. HE SAYS THE COMPANY STRIVES TO SELL THE BEST CANNABIS THE STATE HAS TO OFFER TO ITS CUSTOMERS. AND FOR EMBARQ, THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE HAVE A MISSION OF NORMALIZING CANNABIS AT SCALE THROUGH COMMUNITY CENTRIC AND SENSITIVE ACTIVATION, SUCH AS WHAT WE’RE DOING AT THE STATE FAIR THIS YEAR, VISITORS TO THE CALIFORNIA STATE FAIR WILL HAVE THE CHANCE TO BECOME CUSTOMERS FOR THE FIRST TIME. THEY’LL BE ABLE TO SMOKE, EAT AND DRINK CANNABIS PRODUCTS ON SITE IN A DESIGNATED AREA. IMPORTANTLY, THIS IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. THIS IS FOR ADULTS OVER THE AGE OF 21 WHO CHOOSE TO RESPONSIBLY CONSUME. SO HOW IS THIS GOING TO WORK? THERE HAS BEEN A CANNABIS EXHIBIT AT THE FAIR SINCE 2022. THIS YEAR, INSIDE, VISITORS CAN USE A QR CODE ONCE THEIR ID HAS BEEN CHECKED TO PURCHASE ITEMS THEY WANT TO TRY, LIKE THEY WOULD AT A DISPENSARY. THEY CAN THEN CHECK OUT AND THEN PICK UP THEIR PRODUCTS, AND THEN THEY ACTUALLY GO TO A DESIGNATED CONSUMPTION AREA THAT IS NOT VISIBLE FROM PUBLIC VIEW OR RIGHT OF WAY, AND POSITIONED IN AN AREA OF THE FAIR THAT ENSURES THAT IT DOESN’T IMPACT THE EXPERIENCE OF ANY OTHER FAIR ATTENDEES. THIS INCLUDES BEVERAGES, EDIBLES AND INHALABLE PRODUCTS AND OTHER CANNABIS INFUSED GOODS FROM FARMS AROUND THE STATE. MOORE HOPES IT’S EDUCATIONAL FOR PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE TO PARTAKE, AND FOR THOSE WHO DON’T, I THINK THAT SO SEEING THIS EXHIBITION, WHAT IT IS AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, WHAT IT IS NOT WILL HELP EDUCATE CONSUMERS AS TIME GOES ON. MOORE SEES THIS AS A HUGE STEP FORWARD FOR THE INDUSTRY. YOU KNOW, FOR CANNABIS TO STAND ALONGSIDE OF TRADITIONAL AGRICULTURAL CROPS AND BE CELEBRATED AS SUCH IS A HUGE DEAL. LEE ANNE DENYER KCRA THREE NEWS LEANNE ALSO REPORTS CONSUMPTION OUTSIDE OF THIS AREA IS NOT ALLOWED THROUGHOUT THE FAIR. THE DESIGNATED SPOTS ARE LICENSED IN A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CANNAB

The California State Fair in Sacramento will allow cannabis sales and consumption in a designated area for the first time in 2024, according to its partner for this year’s fair. Embarc, a cannabis retailer with 15 dispensaries, said Tuesday that this year’s cannabis exhibition hall for fair attendees ages 21 and older will include a 30,000-square-foot consumption lounge where people can try products from farms and brands across the state. Fair attendees will be able to scan QR codes to add products to a virtual shopping basket and buy them at Embarc’s on-site dispensary. “This initiative spotlights the significant role of cannabis in California’s agricultural industry, marking a major milestone in the state fair’s 170-year history,” James Leitz, executive producer of the fair’s cannabis competition and exhibit, said in a release. “Expanding the competition to include all form factors and providing patrons the opportunity to directly engage with and consume winning brands is transformational for public understanding of the plant.”For the past two years, the fair has featured an educational cannabis exhibit and awards competition that highlights the industry. Now people will be able to legally smoke pot at the fair for its 170th anniversary.
