MELANIE GOOD MORNING. GOOD MORNING. YEAH LAST WEEK THE UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCED THAT A NEW STADIUM WILL BE BUILT HERE ON THE SACRAMENTO STATE CAMPUS. AND WE’RE LEARNING A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THOSE PLANS, INCLUDING HOW THAT STADIUM WILL LOOK. AND JOINING US THIS MORNING TO TALK MORE ABOUT IT IS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR MARK ORR. THANKS FOR BEING WITH US THIS MORNING. OKAY. SO WHEN YOU SAW THOSE RENDERINGS OF WHAT WILL BE BUILT HERE, POTENTIALLY, WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST THOUGHT? WOW, WHAT A WHAT WONDERFUL RENDERINGS FOR SACRAMENTO STATE FOR OUR COMMUNITY. WE WANT THE BEST FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FOR OUR COMMUNITY AND POPULOUS. AND THE CONCEPTUAL RENDERINGS THAT THAT HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED, CERTAINLY SHOW WHAT THIS CAN BE. AND I CAN’T WAIT TO GET STARTED. AND THIS IS ALL A PUSH TO GET SAC STATE INTO THE PAC 12 CONFERENCE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS NEEDED IN ORDER TO BE A VIABLE CONTENDER FOR THE CONFERENCE. IS THAT CORRECT? A FACILITY OF THIS NATURE? YEAH, I WOULD SAY THE FACILITY IS NOT NECESSARILY JUST FOR CONFERENCE AFFILIATION. IT’S FOR STUDENTS FIRST AND FOREMOST AND FOR OUR COMMUNITY AT HORNET STADIUM, WHERE WE’RE SITTING TODAY, HAS BEEN HERE SINCE 1969. ORIGINALLY, IT SEATED 6000 SEATS. IT HOSTED, YOU KNOW, MARTIN LUTHER KING HERE, OLYMPIC TRIALS HAVE BEEN HERE. SEVERAL CAUSEWAY CLASSICS. BUT IT’S TIME. IT’S TIME FOR A NEW FACILITY WITH NEW AMENITIES FOR OUR COMMUNITY, OUR STUDENTS, OUR OUR FACULTY, OUR STAFF ARE WONDERFUL ALUMNI. SO THE MOTIVATION BEHIND DOING THE STADIUM, QUITE FRANKLY, HAS ALWAYS BEEN, WE NEED IT. WE NEED IT HERE IN SACRAMENTO. WE NEED A PLACE FOR GATHERING COMMUNITY SHOWS, CONCERTS, ALL DIFFERENT KINDS OF ACTIVITIES. SO THAT’S OUR MOTIVATION. AND THIS WILL BE A 25,000 SEAT STATE OF THE ART AS IT’S CALLED FACILITY. YOU HAVE STUDENTS WHO ARE AT THE CENTER, AS YOU SAID, OF THE DESIGN HERE, FOR THE STUDENTS WHO ARE HEARING THIS AND SAYING, OH MY GOODNESS, I CAN’T PUT MORE OF A BILL FOR ANYTHING. I CAN BARELY AFFORD TUITION. HOW DO YOU HELP THOSE STUDENTS WRAP THEIR BRAINS AROUND POTENTIALLY WHAT WILL BE THE COST FOR THIS NEW SITE? YEAH, WE HEARD FROM OUR STUDENTS LOUD AND CLEAR THROUGH LISTENING SESSIONS, THROUGH THROUGH FEASIBILITY STUDIES, AND STUDENTS WANT A BETTER STADIUM. THEY WANT. THIS IS A VIBRANT, ACTIVE CAMPUS, SO WE’RE NOT USING ANY GENERAL FUNDS FROM THE UNIVERSITY TO TO BUILD THIS STADIUM. THIS WILL COME FROM REVENUES FROM THAT HAVE BEEN ALLOCATED TO ATHLETICS TO PHILANTHROPIC GIFTS THROUGH CORPORATE PARTNERSHIPS TO BE ABLE TO FUND THE STADIUM AND AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT’S FOR OUR STUDENTS, FOR OUR ALUMNI TO ENJOY ACTIVITIES BEYOND ATHLETICS. WE ALSO HAVE USE THE STADIUM NOT JUST FOR FOOTBALL. WE HAVE INTRAMURALS, CLUB SPORTS, RUGBY, SOCCER. SO OUR STUDENT WILL HAVE THE BEST STUDENT SECTION YOU CAN POSSIBLY HAVE IN THE COUNTRY. AS FOR WHEN THIS FACILITY WILL BE BUILT, POTENTIALLY NEXT SEASON, WHAT THEY WANT TO DO IS AT THE END OF THIS SEASON, START THE PROCESS OF BRINGING THIS ONE DOWN AND PUTTING UP THE NEW ONE.
