THIS IS THE FIRST TV AD THE NATIONAL REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEE RELEASED IN CALIFORNIA’S NINTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT, A RACE BETWEEN DEMOCRATIC INCUMBENT JOSH HARDER AND REPUBLICAN STOCKTON MAYOR KEVIN LINCOLN. HERE’S THE FIRST CLAIM AGAINST REPRESENTATIVE HARDER, GRAND CAYMAN ISLAND PERFECT FOR A MILLIONAIRE VENTURE CAPITALIST FROM SAN FRANCISCO. IT’S WHERE JOSH HARDER STASHED HIS CASH. YOU KNOW, THE CAYMANS, WHERE SHADY BUSINESSMEN AVOID TAXES. POLITICO REPORTED IN JANUARY. HARDER HAS INVESTMENTS IN FUNDS BASED IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS, SO THIS IS PARTLY TRUE. HE GOT THE STAKES IN THE FUNDS FROM HIS TIME WORKING AT BESSEMER VENTURE PARTNERS BEFORE HE WAS ELECTED TO CONGRESS. BESSEMER IS A VENTURE CAPITAL FIRM, BUT HARDER’S CAMPAIGN SAYS HE HAD NO CONTROL OVER WHERE THOSE FUNDS ARE LOCATED, DENYING THAT THIS WAS AN ATTEMPT TO AVOID TAXES. NOW, LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THE NEXT CLAIM. WHILE HE WAS STASHING HIS CASH HARDER, RAISED TAXES ON ALL OF US OVER 10 BILLION IN TAX REVENUE. IF YOU LOOK AT THE FINE PRINT, THIS AD CITES THE HERITAGE FOUNDATION. THAT’S A CONSERVATIVE THINK TANK, THE SAME GROUP BEHIND PROJECT 2025. SO THEY CLAIM THE INFLATION REDUCTION ACT, WHICH HARDER VOTED FOR, RAISED EVERYONE’S TAXES. BUT THE BILL’S TAX INCREASES MAINLY TARGET LARGE COMPANIES AND THE RICHEST AMERICANS INCREASES THAT COULD GET PASSED ALONG INDIRECTLY TO THOSE WHO MAKE LESS. BUT OVERALL INDEPENDENT EXPERTS FOUND MOST AMERICANS WOULD SEE LITTLE TO NO CHANGE. SO THIS IS MOSTLY FALSE. BACK TO YOU. WELL, HARDER IS SEEKING A FOURTH TERM IN THE HOUSE. In California’s 9th Congressional District, a Republican political committee is making some major claims against the Democratic incumbent, Congressman Josh Harder.It is the first television ad the National Republican Congressional Committee released in the race between Harder and Republican Stockton Mayor Kevin Lincoln.So, are the allegations true?Claim: “Grand Cayman Island, perfect for a millionaire venture capitalist from San Francisco. It's where Josh Harder stashed his cash. You know, the Caymans, where shady businessmen avoid taxes.”Politico reported in January that Congressman Harder has investments in funds based in the Cayman Islands, according to his 2022 personal financial disclosure.So, this is partly true.He got the stakes in the funds from his time working at Bessemer Venture Partners before he was elected to Congress. Bessemer is a venture capital firm.However, Harder's campaign said he had no control over where those funds were located, denying that this was an attempt on his part to avoid taxes.Claim: “While he was stashing his cash, Harder raised taxes on all of us.”If you look at the fine print, this ad cites The Heritage Foundation here. It is a conservative think tank, the same group behind Project 2025.They claim the Inflation Reduction Act, which Congressman Harder voted for, raised everyone's taxes.However, the bill's tax increases mainly target large companies and the richest Americans.
