Videos show live surveillance footage of San Joaquin County ballot drop boxes
The San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters office has partnered with EarthCam to enhance election transparency.
As long as you have a phone or computer, you can access live surveillance footage of any of the 25 official ballot drop boxes in the county.
People can access the livestreams on the county registrar of voters' website.
Officials said the EarthCam offers peace of mind to voters and election officials.
Olivia Hale with the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters' office said, “It's very easy and user-friendly. I think that it helps voters feel safe and secure knowing that we're always watching and in the event something happened at a drop box that shouldn't have or there was an issue with the drop box, we are able to report that to our sheriff.”
Tom Patti with the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors said, “You take the drop boxes and we take the votes right out of them into the ROV’s office. They don’t go to post offices. There’s no loss of custody [of the votes]."
Even though surveillance livestreams are not required in California's election code, the county did it to help ensure people's ballots are safe and secure.
"We have had citizens come forward on both sides of the party to make sure that we have election integrity, and we've gone through the extra measures to put those concerns to rest,” Patti said.
