Adam Gray and John Duarte debate in race for California’s 13th congressional district
With less than two weeks before the November election, the candidates for California’s 13th congressional district faced off in a debate.
Republican Congressman John Duarte and challenging Democrat Adam Gray made their final pitches to Modesto voters Friday night.
In 2022, it was the state’s closest congressional race, coming down to just 564 votes separating the candidates– about four-tenths of a percentage point.
Both candidates answered questions about their plans to address issues impacting the Central Valley, like affordable housing and the water shortage.
“We need to increase the supply to a place that we can actually not have such dramatic increases,” said Gray.
“I’m so passionate about moving infrastructure money from silly projects to projects that actually make housing more affordable,” said Duarte.
They also discussed their stance on immigration, same-sex marriage and abortion.
California’s 13th congressional district covers a wide area, including parts of San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera and Fresno counties.
