Sacramento State campus sees wave of pink as thousands make strides against breast cancer
The Sacramento State campus got a new school color this morning as thousands of people wearing pink showed their support for breast cancer patients and survivors.
The 5k walk Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
The walk began with a Sacramento breast cancer survivor cutting a big pink ribbon at the starting line.
The course wove through the Sac State campus, peppered with signs and messages about the importance of breast cancer awareness.
One in every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Survival rates are higher if it is caught early.
The money raised by the walk will support a number of programs, including making sure local patients have transportation to their medical appointments.
Organizers said the walk raised over $600,000 with the event and 20,000 walkers participated.
