Explore Outdoors: Historic Ione castle, haunted or cool?
Perched atop of hill overlooking the Amador County town of Ione is a castle so historic that the State of California calls it "the most significant example of Romanesque Revival architecture in the Mother Lode."
But, is it also haunted?
Preston Castle plays to host a popular Halloween season tour inside the 130-year-old structure.
With the Halloween season now over, work is underway to transform it for the Christmas season. That includes guided tours through what was initially built and used for the Preston School of Industry, a spot created by lawmakers aimed at rehabilitating, rather than simply imprisoning juvenile offenders.
In 2001, the Preston Castle Foundation took over the property, which formally closed in 1960.
Now, every spring it hosts a series of tours focused on the paranormal.
But, why would this castle be haunted?
To learn more about that part of this spot to explore, watch my story above.
