Biden addressed the nation following Trump's election victory, congratulating the president-elect and promising an orderly transition.

"We accept the choice the country made. I've said many times, you can't love your country only when you win," Biden added.

Trump is already working on his team, which will be different from both the current Biden-Harris administration and his first term.

This includes filling around 4,000 government positions.

"We can add a few names like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and he's going to help make America healthy again," Trump said.

Trump also mentioned Tesla CEO Elon Musk, pledging to make the South Africa native the secretary of federal "cost-cutting."

Analysts believe Trump is prioritizing loyalty in his selections.

"There's a lot of people that won't work for him anymore, and he wants to make sure he gets the people that he wants, not based on experience and recommendations from other people, but based on loyalty to him," said Todd Belt, of George Washington University.

Biden sent a message to his staff and supporters after what they see as a difficult defeat.

"Setbacks are unavoidable, but giving up is unforgivable," Biden said.

The White House says the two teams are working to set up a meeting between Biden and Trump.

Around 1,200 of Trump's presidential appointments will require Senate confirmation, and with the Senate now shifting to Republican control, this gives Trump an advantage.

There are just 74 days until Inauguration.
