WITH CHINESE PRESIDENT XI JINPING. TIME NOW IS 617, AND THIS WEEK’S EXPLORE OUTDOORS REPORT, MIKE TESELLE HIGHLIGHTS A SPOT TO GET OUT AND EXPLORE, EVEN IN THE WINTER MONTHS. THE REASON IS BECAUSE OF A RARE AND UNIQUE DISCOVERY YOU CAN FIND AT THE APTLY NAMED DISCOVERY PARK. DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS, COMING HERE TO DISCOVERY PARK IS USUALLY A POPULAR WAY TO TRY AND DISCOVER HOW COOL AND REFRESHING THE WATER IS ON A HOT DAY. BUT DID YOU KNOW THERE’S SOMETHING ELSE TO DISCOVER HERE? THAT IS THE SOUND OF A UNIQUE BIRD NOT FOUND ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD. DID YOU KNOW DISCOVERY PARK IN CALIFORNIA’S CENTRAL VALLEY ARE THE ONLY PLACES TO WITNESS THE YELLOW BILLED MAGPIE? THAT’S BECAUSE THESE BIRDS WITH THE YELLOW BILL AND DISTINCTIVELY LONG TAILS DON’T MIGRATE. SO THEY ARE ENDEMIC TO THE VALLEY. OFTEN DESCRIBED AS BLACK AND WHITE, YOU’LL WANT TO TAKE TIME TO LOOK CLOSER TO SEE THEIR MORE COLORFUL THAN YOU MIGHT THINK. AND WATCHING THESE COLORFUL CORVIDS DOESN’T MEAN YOU CONSTANTLY HAVE TO LOOK UP INTO THE TREES, BECAUSE THEY SPEND CONSIDERABLE TIME FORAGING ON THE GROUND, AND AS SOCIAL BIRDS, THEY’RE OFTEN IN GROUPS. SO IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A SPOT TO GET OUTSIDE AND DISCOVER WHAT MAKES THE YELLOW BILLED MAGPIE SO FUN TO WATCH, THEN A TRIP TO DISCOVERY PARK MAY JUST FIT THE BILL. DISCOVERY PARK, WHERE THE SACRAMENTO AND AMERICAN RIVERS MEET MIKE TESELLE FOR EXPLORE OUTDOORS OF COURSE. DISCOVERY PARK, JUST NORTH OF DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO. ALSO ANCIL HOFFMAN PARK ALONG THE AMERICAN RIVER IS ANOTHER GOOD SPOT TO WATCH THE YELLOW BILLED MAGPIE IN ACTION. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THIS AND OTHER EXPLORE OUTDOOR IDEAS,
