Twenty-eight people were arrested during a protest Wednesday morning at the Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, officials said.The Fairfield Police Department said the people were intentionally blocking the entry gates to the base. About 50 people gathered around 6:30 a.m. by the gate, police said. The demonstration is part of the mass "Rallies and Human Blockades" event happening throughout California. Activists hope to stop the U.S. supply chain for weapons to Israel as the country's war with Hamas continues.Police said they told participants that they were legally allowed to protest peacefully but said they could not block the roadway. They did not listen and began blocking the entrance.The police department said the protestors ignored several commands to leave the roadway. In response, deputies from the Solano County Sheriff's Office arrested six people at the south gate while officers arrested 20 people at the main gate. Officers with the Vacaville Police Department assisted in arresting two more people at the north gate.Nobody was injured, and no force was used, concluding the protest by 9:30 a.m., the police department said. The protests were planned to happen on Nov. 20, which is World Children's Day.
