'Rebuilding their lives': Shelter set up for families displaced in Sacramento County apartment fire
The Sacramento County Office of Emergency Services and the American Red Cross have opened a shelter to help the dozens of people who were displaced in an apartment fire in North Highlands on Tuesday night.
"You're talking about people who have nothing to go to, nowhere to go to, no possessions. And we're inching up on the holidays, so this is the time for our volunteers and the county to step up and put their arms around these folks," said Steve Walsh, a Red Cross spokesperson.
The shelter is setup at the Sacramento County Service Center at 3331 Peacekeeper Way, suite 100.
"They've lost their driver's license, their insurance papers. It's up to the county to step up and make sure that the public has a path to start rebuilding their lives," said Sacramento County spokesperson Matt Robinson.
If you would like to help you're asked to contact the Red Cross or dial 211.
