Explore Outdoors: Sabercat Park, spot of historic discovery
If you're looking for a spot to work off some of those Thanksgiving dinner calories, then might I suggest a spot where a group of young boys once made a discovery so eye-opening that they quickly became known as the "Boy Paleontologists."
And the spot where they made that discovery is Sabercat Historical Park.
Here, a two-mile-long trail meanders along Sabercat Creek Trail and through the trees to make a pleasant spot to get out and enjoy nature. But it's the history here that adds to this spot's location.
Beginning in the 1930s, a group of local students excavated a trove of remarkable fossils dating back to the last Ice Age.
To learn more about what they found and what else makes this park so steeped in local history, watch the video above.
Parking and restrooms for Sabercat Historical Park are located along Castillejo Way, which is only a few blocks off of Interstate 680 in Fremont.
