WE BEGIN WITH BREAKING NEWS. THAT BREAKING NEWS. POLICE ARRESTED A MAN SUSPECTED IN THE KILLING OF A UNITED HEALTH CARE CEO, BRIAN THOMPSON. POLICE ARRESTED 26 YEAR OLD LUIGI MANGIONE ON FIREARM CHARGES AND PUBLICLY IDENTIFIED HIM AS A PERSON OF INTEREST IN THE EXECUTIVES DEATH. THIS IS THEIR MAIN SUSPECT. BRIAN THOMPSON WAS GUNNED DOWN ON A BUSY MIDTOWN MANHATTAN SIDEWALK LAST WEEK. THIS MORNING, OFFICIALS SAY AN EMPLOYEE AT A MCDONALD’S IN ALTOONA, PENNSYLVANIA, CALLED AUTHORITIES AFTER SEEING A MAN WHO LOOKED LIKE THE SUSPECT IN THE PICTURES RELEASED BY THE NYPD. ONCE THAT THE POLICE STATION SOURCES SAY OFFICERS DISCOVERED THE MAN HAD A GUN SIMILAR TO THE ONE USED IN THOMPSON’S KILLING. OFFICERS ALSO FOUND A SILENCER AND A FAKE NEW JERSEY I.D. OFFICIALS. PART OF THE INVESTIGATION SAY HE HAD A MANIFESTO ON HIM THAT SPEAKS TO HIS POSSIBLE ALLEGED MOTIVATION AND MINDSET IN THE ALLEGED KILLING IN THIS CASE, IT REALLY CAME DOWN TO TECHNOLOGY WAS THE USE OF DRONES IN CENTRAL PARK AND REALLY COMES DOWN TO THE TO THE VIDEO CAMERAS THAT WE DID. WE USED EVERY SOURCE OF VIDEO THAT WE COULD COLLECT HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF HOURS FROM HUNDREDS OF SOURCES. AND THAT HELPED BRING THIS TO WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW. AND WE’VE LEARNED THAT LUIGI WAS BORN AND RAISED IN MARYLAND, HAS TIES TO SAN FRANCISCO AND THAT HIS LAST KNOWN ADDRESS WAS IN HONOLULU, HAWAII. A LINKEDIN PAGE THAT APPEARS TO BELONG TO LUIGI MANGIONE STATED THAT HE WORKED AS A HEAD COUNSELOR AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TEACHING ASSISTANT AT STANFORD UNIVERSITY FOR THREE MONTHS IN 2019. STANFORD DID NOT IMMEDIATELY RESPOND TO A REQUEST FOR COMMENT ON THIS. AT THIS TIME, HE HAS NOT BEEN CHARGED WITH THE CEO’S DEATH. THIS, OF COURSE, IS A DEVELOPING STORY. Luigi Nicholas Mangione, the murder suspect detained in connection with the deadly UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting, previously worked for the California-based digital automotive marketplace TrueCar, Inc., until last year, KCRA 3 has confirmed. He also appeared to have worked at Stanford University as a head counselor for a summer program at Stanford University during the summer of 2019.NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny on Monday first identified Mangione, 26, as a “strong person of interest” in the Manhattan ambush shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last week. He was later identified as the suspect in the shooting. Mangione was arrested on a firearms charge and is fighting extradition to New York. The same LinkedIn page said Mangione has worked at Santa Monica-based TrueCar, Inc. for the past four years as a data engineer where he took on greater responsibilities. A TrueCar representative said the company generally doesn't comment on personnel matters but that it could confirm Mangione "has not been an employee of our company since 2023." TrueCar describes itself as the "first and only online marketplace for new, used and certified pre-owned vehicles." Representatives for the NYPD told KCRA 3 they could not confirm details about Mangione's ties to California beyond what has already been announced, or the authenticity of the LinkedIn page at this time. According to the page, Mangione was the valedictorian of the Gilman School when he graduated from the private Baltimore school in 2016.

WBAL in Baltimore confirmed that Mangione was an alumnus and valedictorian of the school. WBAL also reported that he went on to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.

He is also the cousin of a Baltimore County delegate.

Mangione's LinkedIn page said that he worked part-time as a head counselor teaching about artificial intelligence to “gifted high school students” at Stanford University during the summer of 2019.

That included leading a seven-member residential staff “in creating an inclusive, fun and stimulating residential community,” according to the social media page.

According to the program’s website, the pre-collegiate studies program hosts students from across the world.

“We can confirm that a person by the name of Luigi Mangione was employed as a head counselor under the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies program between May and September of 2019,” Stanford spokesperson Dee Mostofi told KCRA 3 in a statement.

The same LinkedIn page said Mangione has worked at Santa Monica-based TrueCar, Inc. for the past four years as a data engineer where he took on greater responsibilities.

A TrueCar representative said the company generally doesn't comment on personnel matters but that it could confirm Mangione "has not been an employee of our company since 2023."

TrueCar describes itself as the "first and only online marketplace for new, used and certified pre-owned vehicles."

Representatives for the NYPD told KCRA 3 they could not confirm details about Mangione's ties to California beyond what has already been announced, or the authenticity of the LinkedIn page at this time.
