Sunday River Resort in Maine saw more than 300 skiers and snowboarders dressed as Santa fill the slopes for its 24th annual Santa Sunday event, which raised $9,000 for a local nonprofit organization. Each person dressed in the classic red suit and hat had pre-registered for the event, proceeds from which benefit The River Fund Maine. Since its founding in 2018, The River Fund Maine has awarded two $20,000 annual college scholarships — each renewable for up to four years — to students in the greater Newry-Bethel area.In return for their support and holiday spirit, Sunday River provided each Santa with a lift ticket for the day and an extra lift ticket to be used for a future visit before Christmas Eve."This event is a wonderful way to celebrate the season, but its true impact comes from the generosity of our mountain community," said Sunday River Resort president Dana Bullen said in a statement.
