What is most dangerous hour to drive in California?
A new survey of federal crash data suggests there is one hour that has proven to be more dangerous than any other in California.
Fatal crash data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was analyzed by Bader Scott Injury Lawyers in each state for the years between 2017 and 2022.
What they found was that the hour with the highest percentage of deadly crashes was 8 p.m. - 8:59 p.m. when 6.34% of fatal crashes happened.
A total of 22,459 deadly incidents occurred from 2017 to 2022.
That hour was nearly three times more dangerous than the 8 a.m. hour during the morning commute, which was the safest with 2.22% of deadly traffic reports.
However, the message associated with this survey was not to assume there is a safer time to drive just based on historical data.
"Not having certain times not appearing on this list does not mean they aren't dangerous, and this not only emphasizes the importance of safe driving but also remaining vigilant of those around you," said Seth Bader.
In 22 states nationally, the most dangerous hours were during the evening commute.
In 12 states, 5 p.m. was the hour with the highest percentage of fatal crashes.
In the other 10 states, the 6 p.m. hour had the highest percentage.
