I’M EDIE LAMBERT AND I’M ANDREA FLORES. THE SHOOTING HAPPENED LAST FRIDAY MORNING ALONG EAST ACADEMY STREET NEAR LILAC STREET IN WOODBRIDGE, KCRA 3’S. MARICELA DE LA CRUZ SHOWS US WHAT HAPPENED IN COURT TODAY. DURING A BRIEF COURT APPEARANCE, I’M GOING TO ASK THAT WE PUT THIS MATTER OVER JUDGE UNTIL NEXT WEEK, THURSDAY, FOR FURTHER ARRAIGNMENT. AS SHANE WINANS CASE WAS MOVED, THE 50 YEAR OLD IS FACING MURDER CHARGES IN CONNECTION TO NICOLE WINANS SHOOTING LAST FRIDAY. HER DEATH TAKING EVERYONE, INCLUDING HER FAMILY MEMBERS, BY SURPRISE. THEY HAD LITTLE SITUATIONS SOMETIMES, BUT THIS NEVER. THIS EXTREME. HE HE JUST SNAPPED. DESPITE A SEPARATION, KATRINA AND JENNIFER SAY THAT THEY ONLY STARTED FINDING OUT ABOUT THEIR COUSIN’S RELATIONSHIP TO SHANE AFTER HER DEATH. HE WAS PROBABLY EMBARRASSED. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? SHE DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING TO ME. NOT TO ME, NOT TO ANY OF THE FAMILY MEMBERS UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE. IT’S JUST A TRAGEDY. SHANE WINANS IS ALSO FACING CHILD ENDANGERMENT CHARGES, AND THE JUDGE GRANTED A CRIMINAL PROTECTIVE ORDER FOR TWO CHILDREN AS LOVED ONES. GRIEF VIGIL WAS PACKED ONLINE. JUST FLOODED, FULL OF LOVE AND SUPPORT AND SHOCK. YEAH, IT WAS LIKE SHOCK. EVERYONE IS SHOCKED. YOU NEVER WOULD EVEN FATHOM THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN TO NICOLE. YOU KNOW? AND IT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED. THIS CASE LEADING THE SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY OFFICIALS TO ASK THOSE IN DANGEROUS DOMESTIC RELATIONSHIPS TO SEEK HELP THROUGH THE COUNTY’S FAMILY JUSTICE CENTER. A Woodbridge woman's death is putting a spotlight on the vulnerability of people in dangerous relationships.Nicole Winans, 43, was shot and killed last week. Friends and family told KCRA she was a "bright light" and a "really great soul."The suspect accused in her death is her 50-year-old husband Shane Winans. Some of Nicole's family members who attended a brief initial court hearing for Shane Winans on Tuesday said they were shocked by Nicole's death."He just snapped," said Katrina Donahue, Nicole's cousin.Donahue attended the hearing with another of Nicole's cousins, Jennifer Joyce. The two said they only started to learn about the details of their cousin's relationship after her death."She was probably embarrassed. You know what I mean? She didn't say anything to anybody," Joyce said. "It's just tragic."San Joaquin County officials are urging anyone in a dangerous relationship to seek help through the county's Family Justice Center."This case epitomizes the deadly reality of domestic violence, especially at the most dangerous step of leaving an abusive relationship," said Beth O'Hara, chief deputy district attorney for San Joaquin County.Shane Winans' hearing was scheduled for further arraignment on Dec. 19. The suspect accused in her death is her 50-year-old husband Shane Winans.
