A record number of families, more than 400, endured losing a loved one to a fentanyl-related death in Sacramento County last year.
So many of these kids thought they were taking a drug to help them sleep or focus only to be found later unresponsive by a family member. Sadly, so many families were impacted, but one year later, we're seeing a positive shift.
It's important we take a deep look at what changed and how we can keep this moving in the right direction. It's not one thing – it takes a full and comprehensive approach to make this impact.
Advocates hitting the streets with Narcan.
Prosecutors handing out murder convictions and longer sentences for dealers.
And perhaps the most impactful, parents of victims sharing stories and putting faces to the numbers.
And that's giving us an opening to speak with our own kids. This is not like 20 years ago when a teenager snuck a beer. Imagine taking a sip of a beer, but it's drugged with cyanide? That's what we mean when we say one pill can kill.
