Late night fire erupts in Sacramento's Midtown Neighborhood
BACK TO YOU. ALL RIGHT, BRIAN, THANK YOU. WELL, THIS MORNING, SACRAMENTO FIRE INVESTIGATORS ARE TRYING TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF A LARGE LATE NIGHT FIRE AT A HOME IN MIDTOWN. THIS HAPPENED LATE LAST NIGHT ON U STREET, AND IT WAS SO BIG THAT THEY CALLED FOR ALARMS, WHICH BROUGHT IN DOZENS OF CREWS FROM ACROSS THE AREA. KCRA 3’S ERIN HEFT IS JOINING US NOW LIVE WITH AN UPDATE, RAISING IT TO FOUR ALARMS IS KIND OF A BIG DEAL, A HUGE DEAL, DEIRDRE. THAT MEANS ALMOST 100 FIREFIGHTERS. SAC CITY FIRE IS THE MAIN DEPARTMENT ON THIS FIRE, BUT YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE CREWS ARE STILL HERE. NOT EXACTLY MOPPING UP AT THIS HOUR, BUT YOU CAN JUST REALLY TAKE A LOOK. THAT HOUSE COMPLETELY HOLLOWED OUT. A STARK DIFFERENCE AS TO WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE A FEW HOURS AGO WHEN WE WERE ON SCENE. TAKE A LOOK. SO THIS IS WHAT WAS CAPTURED BY OUR KCRA THREE CREWS. THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE AS SACRAMENTO CITY FIRE CREWS BATTLED THIS AGGRESSIVE SITUATION. ORIGINALLY REPORTED AS A FIRE BETWEEN TWO BUILDINGS, CREWS QUICKLY FOUND THAT FLAMES WERE INSIDE OF THIS OLD HOME, THE DEPARTMENT EXPLAINING WITH NEARLY 100 FIREFIGHTERS ON SCENE, FIRE CREWS WENT ON THE ATTACK TO PREVENT THE FIRE FROM SPREADING TO ANY OF THE NEARBY HOMES. STARTING AS A SECOND ALARM FIRE, IT QUICKLY ESCALATED TO A THREE AND THEN A FOUR ALARM FIRE. BUT THE DEPARTMENT SUCCESSFULLY PREVENTED ANY DAMAGE TO ANY NEARBY BUILDINGS. WE’RE ALWAYS PROUD OF OUR CREWS. THEY DO AN AMAZING JOB. THIS IS. THEY TAKE THIS BUSINESS VERY SERIOUS. IT TAKES THE CITIZENS VERY SERIOUS. AND WE DO LIKE THE REST OF THE COMMUNITY WOULD DO FOR ANYBODY ELSE IN THEIR PROFESSION. SO WHEN WE SPOKE TO SACRAMENTO CITY FIRE CREWS LAST NIGHT, THE SOUND THAT YOU JUST HEARD, THERE WAS STILL CONFUSION AS TO IF THIS BUILDING WAS VACANT OR NOT. THEY SAID THEY WERE INVESTIGATING THAT. THAT DOES LEAVE A FEW QUESTIONS AS TO IS THIS A HOME THAT WAS OCCUPIED? PEOPLE WERE AWAY? WAS THIS A COMPLETELY VACANT BUILDING OR WAS IT A POSSIBLE SQUATTER SITUATION THAT’S STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION? AND I WILL BE SPEAKING WITH FIRE CREWS LATER THIS MORNING. TO CLARI
