Toy drive underway for families impacted by lupus. How to help
DRIVE IS WELL UNDERWAY, AND TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO COLLECT ITEMS FOR FAMILIES IN OUR REGION. JUANITA AND BRIANNA QUINONEZ ARE THE FOUNDERS FOR L FOR LUPUS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION. THEY’RE JOINING US LIVE THIS MORNING IN STUDIO TO SHARE A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THEIR MISSION AND HOW YOU AND THE COMMUNITY CAN HELP OUT. WE’RE GOING TO START WITH JUANITA. YOU ARE THE FOUNDER, AND YOU’RE HERE WITH YOUR DAUGHTER. THIS IS PRETTY AMAZING. TELL ME A LITTLE. TELL ME A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT ITS WHY IT’S SO IMPORTANT TO HAVE THIS TOY DRIVE FOR YOU GUYS. SO AS A PERSON THAT HAS LUPUS, A CHRONIC AUTOIMMUNE ILLNESS THAT AS OF NOW, THEY HAVEN’T FOUND A CURE FOR. BUT IT IS A VERY STRESSFUL TIME IN GENERAL. BUT WITH THE HOLIDAYS, PARENTS SOMETIMES CANNOT PROVIDE GIFTS FOR THEIR CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO MAKE CHOICES. AND SOMETIMES GIFTS ARE NOT IN THE BOOKS. SO WE ARE NOW DRIVING SO THAT WE CAN HELP THOSE PARENTS AID THE HOLIDAYS BY PROVIDING GIFTS FOR THEIR CHILDREN. THAT IS TERRIFIC. AND LET’S TALK TO YOUR DAUGHTER, BRIANNA. YOU HAVE THE TOY BOX RIGHT HERE. YEAH. WE DO. WE HAVE OUR ANNUAL TOY DRIVE HAPPENING. IT’S OUR SECOND ANNUAL. LAST YEAR WAS OUR FIRST TIME DOING IT. WE’LL BE HOSTING IT AGAIN NEXT MONDAY. SO WE’RE RUNNING A REALLY HARD PUSH THIS THIS ENTIRE WEEK. FOR ANYONE THAT’S INTERESTED IN DONATING TOYS, DONATING TO OUR GOAL, AND OR APPLYING FOR GIFTS AS WELL. CURRENTLY, WE’RE STILL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THOSE BATTLING AN AUTOIMMUNE ILLNESS OR A CHRONIC ILLNESS. THEY CAN BE ABLE TO APPLY ON OUR WEBSITE. AND IS THERE A SPECIFIC TOY THAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR, OR IS IT ANY TOYS WILL DO. YEAH. SO WE ACTUALLY HAVE AN AMAZON GIFT LIKE WISH LIST PREPARED. THEY CAN GO ONLINE AND CLICK THAT. WE HAVE A BUNCH OF TOYS ALREADY PRE-SELECTED BY CHILDREN ALREADY THAT THEY ALREADY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT. SO IF NOT, THEN WE JUST WILL ACCEPT ANYTHING AT THIS POINT, ANY GIFT UNWRAPPED AND WE HAVE ACTUALLY DONATION DROPS OFF LOCATED NATOMAS, OLD SACRAMENTO AND ALSO IN ROCKLIN. THEY CAN BE ABLE TO DROP OFF THOSE UNWRAPPED TOYS. THAT IS SO TERRIFIC. AND JUANITA, WHAT DO YOU THINK IT MEANS FOR THESE FAMILIES WHO ARE STRUGGLING RIGHT NOW AND TO SEE SO MUCH LOVE COMING FROM THE COMMUNITY DURING THIS TOUGH TIME? IT IS LITERALLY LIFE CHANGING BECAUSE SOME CHILDREN KNOW THAT THEIR PARENTS CAN’T GIVE. BUT WHEN THE COMMUNITY RALLIES AND PROVIDES, IT’S A BLESSING. IT’S A TRUE GIFT OF CHRISTMAS. THAT IS SO AMAZING AND SOME PEOPLE CAN’T GIVE FINANCIALLY OR GET TOYS, BUT HOW ELSE CAN THEY HELP YOUR ORGANIZATION, YOUR FOUNDATION? THEY CAN GO TO OUR WEBSITE AND THEY CAN GIVE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE YEAR BECAUSE THERE’S ALWAYS HOLIDAYS AND ALWAYS SEASONS THAT CHILDREN NEED SOMETHING. PARENTS THAT NEED TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE. AND SOMETIMES CAN’T. WE ARE HERE TO ASK THE PUBLIC TO BE ABLE TO HELP US, HELP THEM. ABSOLUTELY. AND DO YOU NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR YOUR FOUNDATION? ABSOLUTELY. WE HAVE EVENTS THAT THEY CAN COME IN AND HELP VOLUNTEER TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE MORE SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY. OKAY. AND WHERE CAN PEOPLE FIND YOUR DROP OFF LOCATIONS? WE HAVE THE CHALET EVENTS CENTER IN ROCKLAND. WE HAVE UNION LOUNGE IN OLD SACRAMENTO AND WE HAVE CHARCUTERIE BISTRO IN NATOMAS. AND HOW CAN PEOPLE CONTACT YOU GUYS ONLINE TO SIGN UP? THEY CAN REACH OUT TO US ANYTIME AT INFO AT ALFRED LUPUS.COM. IF THEY’D LIKE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR SUPPORT GROUPS, OUR SERVICES AND OUR INSTAGRAM AT L FOR LUPUS. AND THAT’S THE NUMBER FOR. TERRIFIC. WELL, LADIES, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT. APPR
