Stanislaus County residents voice need for traffic light at deadly intersection
TO NEIGHBORS ABOUT THEIR CONCERNS. ACCORDING TO CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL, SINCE JANUARY 1ST OF 2023, THERE HAVE BEEN SIX CAR CRASHES AT THIS INTERSECTION. THREE INJURIES AND THREE NON-INJURY, INCLUDING ONE WHERE FOUR PEOPLE DIED JUST THIS PAST SUNDAY. ALMOST THE ENTIRE COUNTY BEEN TAKEN OUT AND ONE QUICK SHOT. IT’S BEEN HORRIBLE, BUT THE SPEEDING DOWN HERE DOWN 165 ON LANDER HAS BEEN HORRENDOUS OVER THE YEARS. NEIGHBORS ARE RALLYING TOGETHER WITH THE SAME IDEA. PUT A STOP LIGHT IN PLACE SO WE CAN SLOW DOWN THAT TRAFFIC AND PREVENT SOME OF THESE INCIDENTS. FOUR PEOPLE DIED IN A CAR CRASH AT THIS INTERSECTION ON SUNDAY, THREE OF THEM ON THEIR WAY TO CHURCH. I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY DON’T HAVE A LIGHT HERE. WHEN THERE’S A CHURCH DOWN HERE AND SUNDAYS, THERE’S ALL KINDS OF TRAFFIC WITHOUT A LIGHT, ALL THEY CAN DO IS SIT PATIENTLY AT THE STOP SIGN, WAITING FOR AN OPENING. YOU CAN’T HARDLY GET ACROSS. AND THERE’S TIMES I LIVED DOWN THERE FOR 40 YEARS. I STOOD RIGHT HERE FOR FIVE MINUTES, EIGHT MINUTES, WAITING TO TRAFFIC. CLEAR. AS A FATHER OF, YOU KNOW, TEENAGE KIDS THAT ARE DRIVING, I. YOU KNOW, I LET THEM KNOW EVERY DAY THAT THEY COULD ON THIS INTERSECTION HERE THAT TO BE CAREFUL. BE PATIENT OF THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC. SO I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A STOPLIGHT. AND MANY ARE POINTING THE FINGER AT THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. I CONTACTED THE COUNTY. THE COUNTY HAS REFERRED ME OVER TO CALTRANS, AND I ASKED HIM HOW HIM, AND HE SAID, WELL, IT’S NOT UP TO US. IT’S UP TO CALTRANS WITH NO ANSWER YET. THEY’RE TAKING MATTERS INTO THEIR OWN HANDS, LIKE A NEIGHBOR LAST NIGHT AND OUR DIFFERENT NEIGHBORS, AND WE’RE LIKE, WE’RE READY, LET’S GO. I’LL GO MAKE PHONE CALLS. WE’LL GET A PETITION GOING. IT’S IT’S TIME. WE REACHED OUT TO CALTRANS FOR AN ON CAMERA INTERVIEW, AND THEY DECLINED. IN STANISLAUS COUNTY, I’M ANAHITA JAFARI, KCRA THREE NEWS. WE DID REACH OUT TO THE CHP ABOUT THE CAUSE OF THE CRASH, AND AN UPDATE ON THE CONDITIONS OF THE TWO TEENS WHO ARE IN THE
