Here are 3 free things to do this holiday season in Sacramento County
With just one week until Christmas, families are looking for free and fun ways to mark the holidays.
From taking in detailed holiday light displays to taking in a performance, here are three things to do during the holiday season in Sacramento County.
EAST SACRAMENTO
The Fab 40s in East Sacramento is a popular spot for families looking for Christmas light displays. The detailed decorations last for blocks.
Dozens, if not hundreds of people, walk or drive through the neighborhood each night leading up to Christmas.
“Everything is beautiful. Every house is always decorated differently, and everyone puts a unique twist on it. And all the kids come, and they bring their pets and everything. I love it,” Pilarah Smith said.
OLD SACRAMENTO
Old Sacramento's 60-foot Christmas tree is another good stop, with its nearly 24,000 lights and 550 icicles.
The waterfront is also home to the Theatre of Lights. The 20-minute performance is a free, family-friendly retelling of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” that takes place on rooftops along the waterfront. The historic buildings will be lit up in a colorful display for the show.
The Theatre of Lights will run throughout the holiday season on Fridays and Saturdays at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The show will also be performed on Dec. 23 and 24.
ORANGEVALE
The Parade of Lights on Dovewood Court is another popular stop for holiday lights.
The annual light display makes a point to collect items for the “Food for Families” food drive. It runs through Dec. 28.
"I just think everybody over here decorates really well, and they all have a set theme every year, so you know what to expect. And I find that comforting. And it's really pretty over here,” Hailey Paquette said.
