Weak atmospheric river approaching Northern California to bring rain, snow. What to know
549 IS YOUR TIME. LET’S TALK WEATHER ONCE AGAIN. METEOROLOGIST TAMARA BERG HERE. AND IF YOU FELT A LITTLE COLDER YESTERDAY, IT WASN’T JUST YOU, BUT THINGS ARE WARMING UP A LITTLE BIT. YEAH, I MEAN, IT WAS JUST JACKET WEATHER ALL DAY YESTERDAY BECAUSE IT WAS JUST SO GREAT. KEPT OUR TEMPERATURES IN THE 40S. TODAY IS GOING TO BE A LITTLE DIFFERENT STORY AS WE’RE WATCHING A WEATHER SYSTEM ON THE ADVANCE BRING US NOT ONLY SOME OF THE FOG WE’RE SEEING THIS MORNING, BUT ALSO IT’S GOING TO BRING A BIT MORE OF A SOUTH BREEZE OUR WAY. WE MAY EVEN SEE A SLIVER OF SUNSHINE TODAY AND SOME HIGH CLOUDS DRIFTING IN LATER ON AS WELL. HERE’S THE VANTAGE POINT FROM FAIRFIELD. AND AGAIN, YOU CAN’T MAKE OUT THE COASTAL HILLS AS WE’RE COVERED IN THAT LAYER OF FOG. IF YOU’RE TRAVELING IN AND OUT OF SOLANO COUNTY THIS MORNING, LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF FOLKS ARE ON THE ROADS THERE. BRIAN, AS YOU’RE TRYING TO GO MAYBE TOWARDS THE BAY AREA. TEMPERATURES ARE IN THE UPPER 40S, SACRAMENTO, STOCKTON AND MODESTO. IT’S 25 RIGHT NOW IN SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, AND WE ARE SEEING DROPS IN VISIBILITY EVEN IN THE SIERRA, TWO AND A HALF MILE VISIBILITY REPORTED RIGHT NOW, SOME FREEZING FOG THAT’S DEVELOPED IN SOUTH LAKE, AND A FEW PATCHES OF FREEZING FOG AROUND TRUCKEE. WE’RE AT FOUR MILE VISIBILITY IN YUBA CITY, WHERE I’M REALLY ACTUALLY SEEING SOME OF THE HEAVIEST FOG. AND BRIAN’S BEEN REPORTING THIS THROUGH THE MORNING AS WELL AS YOU TRAVEL UP INTO THE EASTERN SUBURBS. SO A LITTLE JOG UP IN ELEVATION TO AREAS LIKE ROSEVILLE, ROCKLIN, LOOMIS AND EVEN AROUND EL DORADO HILLS, MAYBE A LITTLE SUPERIOR THAN, LET’S SAY, DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO. FOR THE DAY AHEAD, EXPECT TO HAVE IN THE PLANNER OVERCAST CONDITIONS THROUGH LUNCHTIME MAY SEE A LITTLE BIT OF SUNSHINE AS WE HEAD INTO LATE DAY, BUT ALSO WATCH FOR THOSE INCREASING HIGH CLOUDS. TODAY’S HIGHS WILL PEAK IN THE UPPER 50S, SO A LITTLE WARMER THAN YESTERDAY. IF YOU’RE IF YOU’RE IN THE FOOTHILLS, YOU’RE ABOVE THE FOG LINE LIKELY. SO YOU’RE GOING TO SEE DAYTIME HIGHS WITH PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES IN THE LOW TO MID 60S. AND THE SIERRA PLANNER. GOOD DAY FOR TRAVELING OVER THOSE SIERRA PASSES. NO TRAVEL DISRUPTIONS IN TERMS OF THE WEATHER. THINGS ARE GOING TO BE DRY. HIGHS TODAY WILL PEAK IN THE LOW 50S AND TRUCKEE AND TAHOE. WE ARE GOING TO START TO SEE CHANGES FOR THE RAIN MOVING IN, THOUGH, AS WE GET INTO SATURDAY. WIDESPREAD LIGHT SHOWERS ACROSS THE AREA ON AND OFF AGAIN DURING THE DAY. SNOW PRIMARILY ABOVE 6500FT. SO VERY LIMITED TRAVEL DISRUPTION. IF YOU’RE PLANNING TO PASS OVER THE PASSES DURING THE DAY TOMORROW AND EVEN AGAIN ON SUNDAY, A FEW BRIEF SHOWERS IN THE MORNING. MANY DRY PARTS TO SUNDAY AND THEN LOOKING AHEAD TO MONDAY. MONDAY. EXPECT TO HAVE SOME OF THE BETTER SHOWER ACTIVITY ON THE NORTH COAST, AND THEN THAT BAND WILL EXTEND INTO THE CENTRAL VALLEY AND THE SIERRA BY TUESDAY. SO EXPECT THAT FOR CHRISTMAS EVE, YOU WILL EXPECT TO HAVE MORE IMPACTFUL WEATHER NOW DURING THE REST OF THE SIERRA TRAVEL FOR THE WEEKEND. AGAIN, VERY LOW IMPACT AS WE EXPECT TO HAVE SOME SLUSHY SNOW AT THOSE PASSES DURING THE DAY TOMORROW. EXTENDED FORECAST HERE. LOOKING AT AGAIN A STRETCH HERE OF ACTIVE WEATHER STARTING SATURDAY. BUT THE BIGGEST IMPACT WE’RE GOING TO FEEL IS ON TUESDAY. SO BE MINDFUL OF THAT. IF YOU HAVE TRAVE
