After living in Stockton for nearly half a century, two doctors are receiving a key to the city.
The award is a recognition of their outstanding contributions to the community.
As his final act as mayor of Stockton, Kevin Lincoln has presented the Gill family with a Key to the City award.
Leaders say the family has truly left their mark on the city and each day they continue to do so.
The Gills are described by friends and colleagues as pioneering physicians and business leaders who embody the American dream and the spirit of Stockton.
Mayor Lincoln said the healthcare contributions they have made in the city have had a big impact on the community.
"For me personally, you know, Dr. Gill delivered my daughter almost 18 years ago and so this is kind of a full circle moment in that just speaks to the breadth and the depth of, contributions," Lincoln said.
Drs. Param and Jasbir Gill said that, to them, this award means that their hard work and dedication to the community has been recognized.
"I know the gaps in care that exist, and I plan to champion women's health care in this community," Param said. "The health of the community is judged by how it takes care of women and children."
The two doctors share a list of accomplishments leading as an example for their kids.
Their son Ricky Gill works for the Gill family companies. Gill OB/GYN Medical Group, Inc. is the largest OB/GYN medical group in San Joaquin County.
"My father was one of the first Indian American doctors in this entire county, led the medical society here, my mother was on the leading edge of robotic surgery and still is for women, which is very important to get, women back home or back into the workforce," Ricky said.
