WE KNOW MANY OF YOU STILL HAVE GIFTS TO WRAP BEFORE CHRISTMAS, SO THIS WEEKEND, THERE’S AN ORGANIZATION OFFERING TO WRAP SOME OF THEM FOR FREE. AND THIS MORNING WE WELCOME LANAYA LEWIS. SHE’S THE MEDIA RELATED REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE SACRAMENTO CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BLACK JOURNALISTS. GOOD MORNING. THANKS FOR BEING HERE. GOOD MORNING. EXPLAIN WHY THIS EVENT IS SO IMPORTANT FOR THE CHAPTER. WELL, NABJ SACRAMENTO IS ALL ABOUT SUPPORTING JOURNALISTS, AND THESE SAME JOURNALISTS ARE THE ONES THAT ARE IN THE COMMUNITY EVERY DAY TELLING THE STORIES, BUT ALSO EMPOWERING THE NEXT WAVE OF JOURNALISTS. RIGHT. AND SO REALLY WHAT THIS EVENT IS, IS A WAY, ANOTHER WAY TO GIVE BACK. AND SO WE’RE GOING TO BE WRAPPING GIFTS, BUT WE’RE ALSO GOING TO BE ABLE TO MINGLE WITH THE COMMUNITY AND JUST REALLY LET PEOPLE KNOW THAT WE’RE HERE FOR THEM. EVEN THOUGH WE ARE A NEWER ORGANIZATION, IT’S HAPPENING AT UNDERGROUND BOOKS, WHICH IS IN OAK PARK. HOW WAS THAT LOCATION SELECTED? WELL, WE WANTED TO SUPPORT A BLACK OWNED BUSINESS, AND AS YOU MAY KNOW, MOST PEOPLE MAY KNOW UNDERGROUND BOOKS HAS AN AMAZING REPUTATION OF GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY. I MEAN, ANYWHERE THAT YOU SEE THEIR NAME, THEY’RE DOING SOMETHING THAT’S IMPORTANT. THEY’RE THEY’RE ALWAYS HOSTING DIFFERENT EVENTS THAT GIVE BACK. AND THEY JUST HAD THEIR SANTA EVENT NOT TOO LONG AGO. AND SO WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE PARTNER WITH SOMEONE WHO ALSO SUPPORTS LITERACY, WHO ALSO IS JUST GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY REGULARLY AND HAS THAT GOOD REPUTATION IN THE AREA. AND SO SPEAKING OF LITERACY, THERE’S ALSO ANOTHER ANOTHER PART TO THIS. SO IT’S NOT JUST THE FREE GIFT WRAPPING, KEYWORD FREE, BUT THERE’S ALSO AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP A LOCAL SCHOOL TOO. YES. IN ADDITION TO THE WRAPPING, WE ARE DOING AN IN-STORE BOOK DRIVE. SO THIS IS GOING TO BE FOR THE THIRD GRADERS AT SAINT HOPE’S PS7 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. AND IT GOES BACK TO SUPPORTING LITERACY AND REALLY HAVING A CHANCE FOR STUDENTS TO KEEP LEARNING, KEEP GROWING, AND, YOU KNOW, FIGURE OUT WHAT SOME THINGS THAT THEY’RE PASSIONATE ABOUT THROUGH READING. YES. OKAY. SO PEOPLE I’M SURE ARE PROBABLY WONDERING, OKAY, HOW DO I PARTICIPATE? WE DO HAVE SOME INFORMATION WE WANT TO PUT ON OUR SCREEN. AND SO IT’S HAPPENING THIS COMING SATURDAY. SO HAPPENING TOMORROW FROM NOON TO FIVE AT UNDERGROUND BOOKS. YES IT IS. AND WE ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO RSVP IF YOU GO TO OUR WEBSITE W-W-W DOT NABJ S.ORG. THERE IS A RSVP LINK AND AGAIN IT IS FREE. SO EVEN IF YOU DON’T HAVE A GIFT, JUST COME JUST JUST COME ENJOY, MINGLE AND MAYBE EVEN JUST MEET THE PEOPLE AT UNDERGROUND BOOKS AS WELL. IF YOU’VE NEVER BEEN THERE BEFORE. ABSOLUTELY. I DO HAVE TO SAY THIS. FULL DISCLOSURE I AM THE PRESIDENT ELECT. SO STARTING NEXT YEAR, I’LL BE THE PRESIDENT OF THE CHAPTER. I’LL BE OUT THERE STARTING AT 2:00. SO WE’RE INVITING EVERYONE TO COME AND SUPPORT THIS EVENT AGAIN. IT’S FREE. WE KNOW YOU STILL HAVE GIFTS. WE KNOW YOU GOT A WRAP THING, SO JUST LET US DO
