PEGGY MILLER HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS IN STORE FOR HER WHEN HER COWORKERS CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE WITH A LOOSE KITTEN AT THE BRADSHAW ANIMAL SHELTER. WHAT THE. HER SON, CODY LEWIS, SURPRISING HER FOR THE HOLIDAYS. SO THIS HAS BEEN PLANNED FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS. YOU’RE ALSO IN THE NEWS. DON’T BE MAD AT ME. CODY HAS BEEN STATIONED AT FORT DRUM IN NEW YORK FOR THE LAST SIX MONTHS. HE SAID HIS LEAVE WAS CANCELED, SO I WAS SAD, BUT I UNDERSTOOD. WAS YOUR LEAVE ACTUALLY CANCELED? NO, IT WAS NOT. IT WAS ALL A PART OF THE SPECIAL SURPRISE. WAS EVERYONE IN ON THIS? YES. THERE’S TISSUES IF YOU NEED THEM. IT TOOK, LIKE, THREE SECONDS. I WAS LIKE, I KNOW THAT GUY. SO PROUD. YEAH. BEYOND PROUD. CODY SAYS HE KNEW HE WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO AFFORD COLLEGE, BUT WANTED TO MAKE HIS MOM PROUD. AND THAT’S WHAT PUSHED HIM TO JOIN THE ARMY. IN ABOUT 2023. I WENT IN AND I GOT APPROVED AND EVERYTHING, SO I DECIDED IT’S THE ONLY OPTION I GOT. SO I JUST WENT FOR IT. THAT PERSISTENCE HAS TO MAKE YOU PROUD. OH YEAH, WE’RE STUBBORN. WE DON’T QUIT. THEY SAY THIS IS THE LONGEST THEY’VE BEEN APART. AND THEY’RE JUST HAPPY TO BE TOGETHER AGAIN. THEY PLAN ON SPENDING THE HOLIDAYS WITH THE REST OF THEIR FAMILY IN JACKSON. I NEEDED THIS IN SACRAMENTO. A Northern California solider surprised his mother at work after being away for months.23-year-old Cody Louis has been stationed at Fort Drum in New York for the last six months.His mother Peggy Miller, who works at Bradshaw Animal shelter, thought he wouldn’t be able to make it home for the holidays, but Friday he surprised her with the help of her coworkers.They hid Cody in a back room and then called her over to help assist with a lose kitten.As she came to help, Cody snuck out the back room with a bouquet of flowers.It was an emotional reunion. The two embraced each other for several minutes.There wasn't a dry eye in the room."It took a while. It took a lot of preparation, a lot of nerves, anxious. But at the end of the day it was worth it," Louis said. They say this is the longest they’ve been apart and they’re just happy to be together again."I needed this," Miller said.They plan on spending the holiday’s with the rest of their family in Jackson.
