Holiday travel in full gear at SMF as millions expected to fly this season
TRAVELING NOW WAS THEIR BEST CHOICE. HOLIDAY SEASON HAS ITS USUAL INCONVENIENCES. WELL, BOTH OF OUR FLIGHTS HAVE BEEN DELAYED, BOTH ON THE WAY HERE AND BACK, SO NOT GREAT. I GUESS THAT’S NORMAL THOUGH. BUT OVERALL A SEAMLESS TRAVEL DAY AT SACRAMENTO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE MUCH BUSIER, BUT IT DOESN’T LOOK BAD YET. TRAVELERS THIS FRIDAY HAD THE SAME IDEA TO SAVE SOME MONEY AND AVOID NEXT WEEK’S CROWDS. SO FAR A LOT EASIER. WE GOT HERE THREE HOURS EARLY, MAYBE A LITTLE TOO EARLY. WE’RE DEFINITELY TRYING TO GET GET AWAY SOONER. IT WAS LESS EXPENSIVE, I THINK A LITTLE BIT TO FLY A LITTLE SOONER. SO WORKED OUT WELL. TSA EXPECTS THEY’LL BE SCREENING 40 MILLION PEOPLE OVER THE HOLIDAYS AND THROUGH JANUARY 2ND. IT’S BEEN REALLY EASY. CHECKING IN WAS REALLY NICE. THE PEOPLE HERE ARE REALLY NICE. WE HAVE AN HOUR DELAY ON. YEAH, WE HAVE AN HOUR DELAY, BUT IT’S PRETTY GOOD. WE JUST GOT DONE WITH FINALS, SO IT’S PRETTY, YOU KNOW IT’S NICE, IT’S NICE. IN SACRAMENTO, LARGE CROWDS ARE EXPECTED ON SUNDAY, MONDAY AND TUESDAY, BUT NO RECORD BREAKING NUMBERS. THIS TIME. THE SUNDAY AFTER THANKSGIVING, WE SAW 25,000 PASSENGERS COME THROUGH, WHICH WAS A RECORD FOR US. AND I DON’T KNOW IF WE’LL HIT THOSE NUMBERS AGAIN THIS TIME, BUT IT’S USUALLY GOING TO BE, YOU KNOW, DEPENDING ON THE DAY, ABOUT 20,000, 22,000 PEOPLE COMING THROUGH THE AIRPORT ON ANY GIVEN DAY. SPOKESPERSON SCOTT JOHNSTON ADDS THAT THEY’VE BROUGHT IN ADDITIONAL WORKERS DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON TO HELP EASE THE TRAVEL FLOW. IT WAS REALLY BUSY COMING OUT OF MIDWAY, BUT IT’S ALWAYS NICE TO COME INTO SACRAMENTO AIRPORT BECAUSE IT’S ALWAYS SO CLEAN AND IT’S NOT SUPER BUSY AND IT’S SUPER EASY TO GET TO AND FROM THE TERMINAL. FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING TO BE PICKING UP SOMEONE AT THE AIRPORT. AIRPORT STAFF ARE ASKING YOU TO WAIT AT THE FREE WAITING AREA, WAIT FOR THAT PERSON TO CALL OR TEXT YOU, AND THEN HEAD OVER TO THE CURB SO THAT YOU CAN AVOID THAT TRAFFIC CONGESTION AT THE SACRAMENTO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.
