West Sacramento will raise parking rates and fines ahead of A’s arrival
Starting next year, parking in West Sacramento will be more expensive.
Drivers will see a 25 to 75 cent increase per hour.
The city uses tiered parking meter rates based on time, meaning the rates increase incrementally the longer a vehicle remains parked at the same meter.
For example, in a ‘2+ meter’ zone the first two hours will cost $2.00 each. Then the hourly rate will go up to $3.50 for the third hour and to $4.50 for four hours or more.
The goal is to free up parking spaces faster in a high-demand area like the Bridge District.
Fines will also increase from $30 to $75, including the state-mandated fee.
The new rates will go into effect on Jan. 4.
Concerned residents and visitors
For seven years, Eric Crane has lived in the Bridge District, where he said parking has become a challenge over time.
“When things are going on at the Barn or you have Cirque du Soleil or a baseball game all going on at the same time— it gets a little bit dicey,” said Crane.
Crane recently learned about the parking rate increase going into effect next month and is worried about how it will impact residents.
“It's not exactly a great time for a lot of people,” said Crane. “Paying more is going to really impact individuals.”
The upcoming raises also have some questioning how often they’ll visit the city.
“I already feel like parking is hard to come by and it's not necessarily affordable as is,” said Angelica Frantz. “For it to go up, it's just not realistic for the public.”
