West Sacramento will raise parking rates and fines ahead of A’s arrival

West Sacramento will raise parking rates and fines ahead of A’s arrival
MUCH MONEY RESIDENTS AND VISITORS WILL BE PAYING. IT WAS A LITTLE BIT OF A SHOCK. WE WEREN’T WE DIDN’T KNOW THAT WAS COMING DOWN THE PIKE. STARTING NEXT YEAR, PARKING IN WEST SACRAMENTO WILL BE MORE EXPENSIVE. IT’S NOT EXACTLY A GREAT TIME FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE, SO PAYING MORE IS GOING TO REALLY IMPACT INDIVIDUALS. ERIC CRANE LIVES IN THE BRIDGE DISTRICT, WHERE PARKING HAS BECOME A CHALLENGE OVER THE YEARS. WHEN THINGS ARE GOING ON AT THE BARN OR YOU HAVE LIKE CIRQUE DU SOLEIL OR A BASEBALL GAME ALL GOING ON AT THE SAME TIME, IT GETS A LITTLE BIT DICEY AND TRAFFIC IS ONLY EXPECTED TO GET WORSE WHEN THE A’S MOVE TO SUTTER HEALTH PARK. A LOT OF THE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY HAVE HAD A LITTLE BIT OF ANXIETY ABOUT THE INCREASED TRAFFIC FLOW TO FREE UP PARKING SPACES, FASTER TIERED PARKING METER RATES WILL SEE A 25 TO 75 CENT INCREASE PER HOUR. FOR EXAMPLE, THE FIRST TWO HOURS WILL COST $2 EACH, THEN THE THIRD HOUR WILL INCREASE TO $3.50. THE FOURTH HOUR OR MORE WILL COST $4.50 EACH. I WORRY ABOUT THE STRATEGY BEHIND ALL OF IT. I HOPE THERE’S LIKE PLANNING THAT’S GOING IN TO REALLY MAKE IT SOMETHING THAT BENEFITS BOTH THE RESIDENTS AND PEOPLE VISITING. FINES WILL ALSO GET PRICIER, GOING FROM 30 TO $75, MAKING SOME QUESTION HOW OFTEN THEY’LL VISIT THE CITY. I ALREADY FEEL LIKE PARKING IS HARD TO COME BY, AND IT’S NOT NECESSARILY AFFORDABLE AS IS, AND SO FOR IT TO GO UP, IT’S JUST NOT REALISTIC FOR THE PUBLIC. HOWEVER, LOCAL BUSINESSES ARE HOPEFUL IT WILL KEEP THEIR CUSTOMERS HAPPY. WE DO HEAR A LOT OF FEEDBACK ABOUT FRUSTRATIONS WITH THE PARKING SITUATION, AND THE BIGGEST ONE IS THAT IT’S HARD TO FIND PARKING IN WEST SACRAMENTO. CATALINA ESTRADA KCRA THREE NEWS. THE CITY IS ENCOURAGING SUTTER HEALTH PARK VISITORS

Starting next year, parking in West Sacramento will be more expensive. Drivers will see a 25 to 75 cent increase per hour. The city uses tiered parking meter rates based on time, meaning the rates increase incrementally the longer a vehicle remains parked at the same meter. For example, in a ‘2+ meter’ zone the first two hours will cost $2.00 each. Then the hourly rate will go up to $3.50 for the third hour and to $4.50 for four hours or more. The goal is to free up parking spaces faster in a high-demand area like the Bridge District. Fines will also increase from $30 to $75, including the state-mandated fee. The new rates will go into effect on Jan. 4.Concerned residents and visitors For seven years, Eric Crane has lived in the Bridge District, where he said parking has become a challenge over time. “When things are going on at the Barn or you have Cirque du Soleil or a baseball game all going on at the same time— it gets a little bit dicey,” said Crane.
