THIS IS KCRA THREE NEWS. THANK YOU FOR JOINING US AFTER THE GAME I’M CECIL HANNIBAL. IT’S BEEN A WET HOLIDAY WEEKEND IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. THIS IS VIDEO FROM EARLIER TODAY IN MIDTOWN SACRAMENTO. IT WAS A FOGGY START TO THE DAY, BUT THINGS STAYED DRY DURING THE DAYTIME HOURS, SO SOME PEOPLE WERE ABLE TO GET OUT AND ABOUT FOR THOSE LAST MINUTE HOLIDAY ERRANDS OR TRAVEL FOR THE HOLIDAYS. WE’LL GO AHEAD AND TAKE A LIVE LOOK OUTSIDE FROM ACROSS OUR REGION, FROM THE VALLEY TO THE SIERRA. THANKS TO OUR SKYCAM NETWORK. LOOKING AT SACRAMENTO, STOCKTON AND LAKE TAHOE THIS EVENING, SNOW SHOWERS WILL STICK AROUND UNTIL MIDNIGHT AND WE WILL CLEAR THE WAY FOR A FOGGY BUT CLEAR START TO YOUR WORKWEEK. BUT SENDING IT OVER TO OUR METEOROLOGIST DIRK VERDOORN. YEAH, WE ACTUALLY HAD A LITTLE BIT OF SUNSHINE THIS AFTERNOON, BUT NOW THE RAIN IS MOVING ON THROUGH. YOU CAN SEE THAT LINE OF RAIN. IT’S A FAIRLY WELL ORGANIZED AREA OF RAIN. WE HAVE MOSTLY MODERATE TO LIGHT SHOWERS, BUT THERE ARE SOME POCKETS HERE OF HEAVIER RAIN MOVING OUT OF VACAVILLE AND VALLEJO AND NOW HEADING TOWARDS GALT AND STOCKTON. SO WE’RE SEEING THIS AREA OF YELLOW SHOWING UP, AND THAT’S WHERE WE HAVE THE MORE MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL. OUTSIDE OF THAT, JUST THE LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS. SO SACRAMENTO YOU TWO ARE KIND OF ON THE NORTHERN EDGE OF THAT. AND THEN THE OTHER BATCH OF RAIN THAT WE HAVE NOW MOVING UP INTO THE MOUNTAINS WITH SOME HEAVIER RAIN HERE AND THROUGH SIERRA NEVADA COUNTIES INTO PLACER COUNTY. AND YOU CAN SEE SNOW LEVELS ARE PRETTY HIGH. THERE’S RAIN CURRENTLY OVER DONNER SUMMIT. SO WHAT CAN WE EXPECT AS WE GO THROUGH TONIGHT AND INTO TOMORROW MORNING? WELL, THE RAIN IS GOING TO CLEAR OUT. AND AS THAT CLEARS OUT EXPECT SOME PATCHY AREAS OF FOG. TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO START OFF FAIRLY MILD IN THE 50S. WE WILL HAVE MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES THROUGH THE AFTERNOON, AND THERE’S A CHANCE WE MAY SEE A LITTLE SHOWER POP UP AROUND 3:00 IN THE AFTERNOON, MAINLY FROM SACRAMENTO NORTH IS WHERE WE’LL SEE THAT, AND THEN WE’LL HAVE DRY CONDITIONS THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT AND INTO TUESDAY MORNING. BUT TUESDAY MORNING THAT’S WHEN WE HAVE STORMY WEATHER MOVING IN. WE’LL SEE BETWEEN 6:00 AND 1:00 IN THE MORNING INTO THE EARLY AFTERNOON. COULD SEE ANYWHERE FROM A HALF AN INCH TO UP TO AN INCH OF RAINFALL IN THE VALLEY, WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF SOME THUNDERSTORMS. SO THAT’S WHAT’S GOING ON WITH YOUR FORECAST. NOW BACK OVER TO YOU, DIRK. THANK YOU. A REMINDER FOR DRIVERS TO BE CAREFUL ON SLICK ROADS. CHP IS INVESTIGATING WHETHER IT IS A FACTOR IN A CRASH IN FAIRFIELD THAT LANDED A MAN IN THE HOSPITAL. IT HAPPENED ON THE RAMP FROM INTERSTATE 80 TO INTERSTATE 680 AROUND 930 THIS MORNING. CHP SAYS THE 40 YEAR OLD MALE DRIVER HIT A WALL, THEN OVERTURNED. THE MAN WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH SERIOUS INJURIES AND WAS THE ONLY ONE INVOLVED IN THE CRASH. FAIRFIELD FIRE SHARING THIS PHOTO OF THE DAMAGE. CHP SAYS THIS WAS NOT DUI BUT SPEEDING AND WEATHER ARE BEING INVESTIGATED AS FACTORS IN THIS CRASH. WITH A BUSY DAY FOR HOLIDAY TRAVEL ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND RIGHT HERE AT HOME, NEARLY 120 MILLION AMERICANS ARE PREDICTED TO TRAVEL 50 MILES OR MORE TO THEIR HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS THIS YEAR. THAT’S ACCORDING TO DATA FROM TRIPLE A, ABOUT 7.8 MILLION PEOPLE WILL TRAVEL BY AIR, MEANING OUR NATION’S AIRPORTS ARE VERY, VERY BUSY. IT’S A LIVE LOOK AT LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. YOU CAN SEE ALL THE BRAKE LIGHTS OUT THERE. IT’S LIKE A PARKING LOT. AS TRAVELERS ARE HEADING TO THE AIRPORT TO CATCH THEIR HOLIDAY FLIGHTS. ONLY THREE DAYS TO GO UNTIL CHRISTMAS. MANY PEOPLE IN OUR AREA ARE STARTING TO HIT THE ROADS OR CATCH A FLIGHT. KCRA 3’S ANDRES VALLE IS IN LIVE TRACKER THREE FOR US, CHECKING ON THE ROAD CONDITIONS AS THE VALLEY GETS MORE RAIN TONIGHT. YES, SO WE ARE BASICALLY DRY TRAVELING ON I-80 HEADING EASTBOUND RIGHT NOW. LET ME FLIP THE CAMERA OVER AND SHOW YOU WHAT CURRENT CONDITIONS ARE. AS DIRK WAS TRACKING THE RAIN HERE IN THE VALLEY. THE GOOD NEWS IS WE’RE NOT SEEING ANY HUGE ISSUES WITH THE CURRENT RAINFALL THAT WE ARE, BUT LIKE WE MENTIONED, IT IS A BUSY TRAVEL DAY FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE TRYING TO GET HOME OR BE WITH THEIR LOVED ONES FOR THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY SEASON. AS OF RIGHT NOW, THINGS ARE STILL LOOKING GOOD IN SACRAMENTO. WE’RE CURRENTLY IN WEST SACRAMENTO AS THE RAIN CONTINUES TO FALL, BUT TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE VIDEO THAT WE SHOT EARLIER. THIS WAS AROUND 7:30 P.M. OFF I-80 NEAR WEST EL CAMINO BOULEVARD. SO FAR THE RAIN AGAIN NOT CAUSING ANY MAJOR ISSUES ON THE ROADWAY. AND WITH THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY ONLY THREE DAYS AWAY, THE HOLIDAY TRAVEL RUSH IS STARTING TO KICK IN. SO DESPITE THE WEATHER, TRAVELERS ACROSS SACRAMENTO ARE MAKING THE BEST OF THEIR HOLIDAY TRAVEL PLANS, EVEN OFFERING THESE TIPS TO OTHERS WHO MIGHT BE TRAVELING SOON. WE GOT TO BE CAREFUL ON THE ROAD, BUT YEAH, JUST DRIVE SLOWER, YOU KNOW? AND I ALWAYS GET A NONSTOP BECAUSE EVERY SINGLE TIME I’VE EVER FLOWN EAST TO WEST WITH THE LAYOVER, IT GETS DELAYED AND I MISS MY LAYOVER FLIGHT. SO WE STOPPED DOING THAT. I’VE BEEN WATCHING THE WEATHER WHERE WE’RE HEADED AND IT LOOKS PRETTY GOOD. SO JUST CHILLY RIGHT NOW. ACCORDING TO TRIPLE A, MORE THAN 119 MILLION PEOPLE ARE EXPECTED TO BE TRAVELING FOR THE HOLIDAYS, AND EXPERTS RECOMMEND THAT YOU GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME TO GET TO YOUR DESTINATION, WHETHER THAT MEANS ARRIVING TO THE AIRPORT A LITTLE BIT EARLIER OR JUST TAKING IT EASY AND DRIVING A LITTLE BIT SLOWER, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT’S RAINING OUT HERE ON THE ROADWAYS. REPORTING LIVE TRACKER THREE I’M ON THE WRAGG FIRE FOR KCRA THREE NEWS. GOOD ADVICE THERE. TAKE YOUR TIME ON THE WET ROADS, ANDRES. THANK YOU. WELL, IF YOU’RE ONE OF THE ROUGHLY 107 MILLION AMERICANS DRIVING TO YOUR HOLIDAY DESTINATION TOMORROW, HERE’S A LOOK AT THE BEST AND WORST TIMES TO HIT THE ROAD. ACCORDING TO TRIPLE-A, THE BEST TIME TO DRIVE IS ANY TIME BEFORE 11 A.M. WHILE THE WORST TRAVEL WINDOW IS FROM 1:00 IN THE AFTERNOON UNTIL 6:00 AT NIGHT. IF YOU’RE WAITING UNTIL CHRISTMAS EVE OR CHRISTMAS DAY TO DRIVE. TRIPLE
