'Violent' crash during police pursuit in Manteca splits car in half, sends driver to hospital
The suspect in a police pursuit is lucky to walk away with minor injuries after a "violent" crash split the car he was driving in half, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said.
Officials said deputies spotted a stolen vehicle around noon Sunday at Main Street and Industrial Park Drive in Manteca. They tried to stop the car, but the driver did not stop.
The sheriff's office said a high-speed pursuit began, with the suspect driving to a rural area of Manteca.
Officials said a deputy set out spike strips, and while the suspect was trying to avoid them he lost control of the car and collided "violently" with a utility pole, splitting the car apart.
The sheriff's office said the driver was ejected, but was found alert and conscious at the scene. He was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and is expected to face a number of criminal charges after he is released.
