Rockmont Circle residents say visitors are trashing their Christmas spirit
Some grinches are out spoiling the holiday tradition of enjoying Christmas lights.
Residents in Rockmont Circle say visitors are trashing the Christmas spirit this year by leaving behind a mess and even vandalizing a display.
The north Natomas neighborhood is known for its stellar holiday decorations, with hundreds flocking to the area to take in the display.
"It's just a bunch of neighbors that love to decorate," said Jay Ross. "We've been doing it for 20 years."
But neighbors said some people are trying to dim their Christmas spirit.
Ross described what his home video caught on camera: a young person jumping out of a car and onto his lawn decorated with "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" characters, including the abominable snowman.
"He came over here and thought it would be really cool to punch the Bumble and kind of offset his chest a little bit," Ross said. "The Bumble won that fight because the kid didn't even knock him over."
Ross captured the scrooge on camera, who can be seen punching the abominable snowman.
"He went and jumped back over the line and ran out in his car, and they scooted off like bandits," he said.
Neighbors said the thousands of visitors every night are also trashing their Christmas spirit.
"People are coming with their Starbucks mochas, and we're just finding their names on their cups all over the place," said Ross. "It's just been a lot more this year than I think we've ever seen."
Ross said the neighborhood spends every morning picking up garbage.
"We just find them on our lawns, in the street, in the bushes, in the leaf piles, and we have to go pick them up," he said.
The mess piles up for days as they wait for city trash day.
"We like to ask if you're going to come enjoy our neighborhood, treat it as if it was yours, and please don't litter," said Ross.
As Yukon Cornelious explains in the beloved Rudolph story, the thing about Bumbles is that they bounce. Ross said his neighbors are resilient too and won't let a gaggle of Grinches steal their holiday joy.
"We all love it too much to stop it. We just ask that they come here and respect us like we ask," Ross said.
The neighborhood even created a nonprofit to help other charitable organizations during the holiday season.
The Christmas displays will be on until New Year's Eve.
