Giants' Matt Cain to make rehab start for River Cats
Cain has won 3 World Championships with SF Giants
A World Series Champion will take the mound Monday for the Sacramento River Cats.
Matt Cain, who has won three World Championships with the San Francisco Giants, will get the start at Raley Field when the River Cats take on division rival the Fresno Grizzlies.
Tickets are still available for Monday’s game, which starts at 7:05 p.m.
Cain was put on the disabled list April 7 after straining a right flexor tendon. He has not pitched in a major league game since July 9, 2014, after missing most of last season after undergoing surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow.
During a rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Richmond, Cain three 55 pitches in 3 2/2 innings. He allowed two runs on three hits, with one walk.
Earlier this season, outfielder Hunter Pence made a series of rehab starts for the River Cats before returning to the Giants.
