'We want justice': Family of 2-year-old girl hit and killed by a truck in Woodland speaks out
The family of the 2-year-old child killed after being hit by a truck in Woodland on Saturday afternoon was identified by her parents as Ailahni Sanchez Martinez.
Ailahni’s parents, Rosa Martinez and Sandro Sanchez, said she was just a month away from her birthday.
“She was always happy, she loved to dance and brought joy to the family,” her mother Rosa Martinez said.
Ailahni’s parents told KCRA 3 that they were setting up their taco stand when they saw the truck moving backward toward their daughter.
"I heard a scream and ran because I saw it going toward my daughter, but it was too late," Sanchez said.
They immediately took her to the hospital, where she later died.
"He left the vehicle running and with a child inside," said Sanchez. "What happened is not right."
Sergeant Towle, a spokesperson for Woodland police, told KCRA 3 that the deadly crash happened around 3:45 p.m. in the 300 block of West Street, off of West Main Street, where there is a 76 gas station.
At the crash scene, the police department said they spotted a black Dodge truck with a 3-year-old child inside. They also found a man near the scene who was associated with the truck and determined it was the vehicle that hit Ailahni.
“We want justice,” said Sanchez. “I lost my daughter because of someone else. “
Towle said DUI is not suspected at this time but did not specify if there was anything criminal that led to the crash.
The family has set up a GoFundMe to raise money to help with funeral expenses.
