Former heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson, is visiting Stockton to support his former boxing teammate Tom Patti in the race for mayor of Stockton.
"I think he's just a politician as he was a boxer and is willing to fight until the end," Tyson said.
Tyson and Patti have been friends for years and this is not the first time Tyson has visited the city of Stockton.
Both of them said it has changed over the years.
Right now, Patti says one of his priorities is reducing the impact of homelessness.
"Homelessness is the biggest concern that the public has because we see it everywhere. It's a humanity crisis. So, if we address it and triage it, and if we accomplish into the state and the cities what we accomplish already in the county where we have no encampments, we have an encampment response team," Patti said.
He said mental health services and drug treatment for the unhoused are helpful in creating a better place.
In the past Patti has faced ethics investigations, KCRA 3 asked about that impact.
"Mike, you've rolled with the punches over time. How good is your friend Tom at taking political haymakers that have been thrown his way?" KCRA 3 reporter Anahita Jafary.
"He's been dealing with it so far," Tyson said.
"Mike and I have something in common something we really firmly believe, just don't quit," Patti said.
Patti said he is friends with his opponent, Christina Fugazi, and they have endorsed each other in the past.
He said now it is up to the voters.
"I'm glad to earn her support in the past, and wherever the election goes, I'm totally at peace with it," Patti said.
"Mike, you've had a lot of legendary managers in your corner throughout your career. How is it that you are in the corner supporting your friend Tom?" KCRA 3 reporter Anahita Jafary.
"Absolutely confident that he's going to succeed and everything he's going to accomplish, I'm proud of him," Tyson said.
Also running in the November election is teacher and public servant Christina Fugazi.
Fugazi is running on a platform to head off the homelessness crisis, modernize Stockton's police force, and draw the appropriate balance between environmental protection and economic development.
