Ariel Roblin: Consider giving back at Run to Feed the Hungry this year
Maybe this holiday season the best conversation starter we could all have is, "I was thinking about volunteering and giving back more this year. Would you like to join?"

In the 17th year of the KCRA3/My58 Turkey Drive, we collected over 18,000 turkeys to help families in need.
This breaks yet another record at a time when the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services are serving over 300,000 of our neighbors a month and moving 40 million pounds of food a year.
When we think of things to be grateful for, we don't need to look much further than this generous community.
Reflecting on your donations made us realize something. Contrary to a typical family gathering, when you are volunteering to support those in need you never even think or wonder about the politics or life choices of the people serving around you giving their time and money.
You immediately find connection and respect for their generosity and kindness, giving no thought to the myriads of differences you may have.
The Thanksgiving holiday typically marks the start of several gatherings with friends and family.
Sometimes, table talk can become challenging and even argumentative.
Election years tend to heighten this even more.
So maybe this holiday season the best conversation starter we could all have is, "I was thinking about volunteering and giving back more this year. Would you like to join?"
And if you don't know where to start, we have a starting line for you at Run to Feed the Hungry this Thanksgiving morning.
We'd love to see you there.
