Sacramento State President Dr. Luke Wood said he met with Michael Vick about the university's football head coach job.The position has been open since Andy Thompson resigned on Dec. 6 to take a position at Stanford University.Wood said Vick expressed interest in the open position."Yes I did meet with him about his interest in Sac State football and our athletic rise," Wood shared on X. "As you can imagine, given the success of our athletic programs that our football head coach job is an attractive role."Vick left behind a complicated legacy in the NFL. Despite playing for 13 seasons and leading the NFL in quarterback rushing yards, his accomplishments are often overshadowed by the 18 months he served in prison for his role in a dog fighting ring.Vick officially retired from the league in 2017 and has made advocating against animal cruelty a part of his mission.The AP reported that Vick was also interviewed to be the next head football coach at Norfolk State University. Vick is a Virginia native who attended Virginia Tech.According to the AP, Vick said the HBCU school reached out to him about the position.Wood did not elaborate on whether or not the university decided to pursue Vick further.
